04 GP GTP Supercharged Starter
 

I need to replace my starter. Got the plastic air shield/skid plate removed found the starter on driver side just in front of the radiator (if looking from under the car) but can not for the life of me remove the 2 bolts holding it in place. How do you get to these?

MY guess would be to jack up the front end, apply ebrake/block rear wheels, put blocks under the trans pan, and lower the front of the cradle(use jack stands on both sides of front of cradle) to get the necessary clearance...may need to loosen, not remove rear cradle bolts...

Should be able to reach down from above and blindly get the ratchet and socket onto those bolts. You'll need a normal short socket for the bolt closest to the block and some extensions for the other one. Clearance is tight in a GP body, you might have to get the fans out to get a little extra room.

Can you post a picture of what you're seeing?

I will get those pictures to you as soon as I find the patience to get back to it. I got so frustrated with the thing that I put it all back together and told my son to figure it out. Hindsight being 20/20, not my smartest moment. Give me a day or two, assuming the rain stops by then.

I think we've all been there. :)

Pictures to come, starter replaced, but now the dreaded anti theft signal so car wont do anything

Back to original problem. If you recall, I was trying to figure out how to get to the 2 bolts. So it turns out that there is a plastic inspection shield (3 bolts removed with 10mm socket, one of which is located through the maze of wires) that prevents the access to the removal of these bolts (circles in image removed with a 15mm). Then you have to battle the challenge of fitting a 15mm socket passed the support (identified by arrow). And after installing the one that the auto parts sold me (assuring me that it was the right one) I had to remove it, return it to the store, argue my case, get the right one, and then install it. Long story short, 1 car 2 starters installed. Turns out theft issue was related to a loose battery cable.(easy fix).
