Default I want an intake..

So my current stock one is gutted, helped a bit...

I want a K&N cone filter and a nice solid pipe to go to it, bring it to the front corner (where air box is now) and have a heat shield around it...

How can I achieve the heat shield deal? I have a 95 and it'* got no PCM up there, nothing, plenty of room....

By the way, if anyone wants to make me a setup, I would not mind paying, that or i'll make my own, just someone shoot me some ideas or drive me in the right direction....

You can take a look at mine, it was very easy, and cheap. Link is below. I just used some cardboard to make a template, then cut it from plastic, covered it with heat reflective insilation, and that was it. Took less then a hour to make. I also used a dryer hose to dirrect air up into the box.

Hmm...interesting, I was looking for the plexiglass see-through kinda heat shield, and a solid chrome (looking) pipe for the intake to the cone, I know I've seen them before...who'* got one, speak up!

i made mine with a piece of PVC, i bought a k&n cone filter - epoxied it with some super strong clear stuff that held it after i let it dry overnight, and fit it onto the remaining existing intake without having to use tape, or anything else - i bought a dryer vent clamp, clamped the tube over the PVC, and let the filter just sit, i eventually noticed it sagging and put a little metal 'rod' under it, and it stayed right in place, stuffed behind the headlight, and sounded Mean for the $35 it cost me to make it.

only regret - not painting the PVC pipe before i snugged it in place, i wasn't sure my plan would even work - then i was too lazy to take it back out and make it look normal.

I also started off with a PVC pipe, it worked well, but I got a aluminum pipe and that worked better. As for the box, I think Willren did what your asking, I could be wrong. That'* what I'm planning to do next spring. Use perhaps 3/8 plexi, and screw it together sealing it off all around.

PVC heatsoaks rapidly and outgasses when heated. Not the best choice. You also want to make sure you allow for flex as the engine torques back under accelleration.

This is why my heatshield isn't attached to the car, only to the filter. That intake is now on my SLE, as my SSEi went to a FWI.

Some old archived pics. Click on my sig pic for other links. I used 1/8" acrylic, and reinforced it with aluminum. 3/8" is very expensive. I have about 20 bucks in materials in that sheild.

You'll want to extend each piece closer to the car ideally. I didn't have to, as I'm stuffing cold air in there from a scoop under the car so it can't pull in hot engine bay air.

Wren, that is exactly what I'm looking for!!! Image 35 of 147 in your gallery is exactly what I am looking to do. Could you possibly tell me where you got the items to make this, and maybe a little more in detail like some instructions, anything you basically think I need to know...I've never done this before but I am pretty handy when I put my mind to things. Also what kind of gain do you think you got from doing this in your opinion, just wondering? Such as fuel efficiency, power, etc...
