It'* been a no-no for stock manifolds and headers for awhile. Cast manifolds might be ok for awhile.
Use header coating. Even DIY. Never paint (even if rated for headers, it'* worthless). If you MUST wrap, use a LOOSE sleeve type wrap that will allow them to shed moisture and breathe.

Doesn't it mostly affect welds? I have my crossover pipe on my PEM'* wrapped in header wrap and it does make a difference. I can touch the wrapped crossover with my hand while the car is running where touching the front manifold would quickly blister my skin. I'm pretty sure Rogue'* headers have the crossover wrapped as well. So far I've had my crossover wrapped for about 9 months and it'* been fine.
Would i wrap the front or rear manifolds? Never. The proof is in the pics.

The extra heat you get from header wraps also means more heat expansion and contraction, those welds probably just expand and contract at a different rate than headers itself. Those are some big cracks though!
