The bottom line on the cars that have done the 'half swap' is that they DID improve the handling of their cars. They replaced old worn-out components. But they don't handle like an SSEi, and they don't handle right. FE1 front ends still dive on braking, and rise on accelleration. The car may feel better, but not as good as it could or should.

The reason the FE1 and FE2 front springs don't differe by much is because the side forces are 'boxed' by the strut bar and larger sway bar. If you leave the FE1 swaybar in, and replace only the springs, you will still have more sway on the front than an FE2 equipped car.

If you want to fix understeer or oversteer, don't revert to FE1 components. Start with FE2 and fix the problem through other methods.

Looks like Ryan is back on the right track. He would NOT have had what he wanted by doing only the FE2 rear. He understands this fully now with Don and I trying to help explain it here and on the phone. There are alot of components and factors that go into a balanced suspension.

Further thoughts on this that occurred to me while I was out running errands a little while ago. In an effort to help explain it better, I'll try this:

Pat'* 1/2 swap has improved his handling to his liking. It'* not an FE2 swap, and he'* not improved his handling to the level of a fully FE2-equipped car. What he has is an FE1 suspension that he'* 'tuned' to his liking with SOME FE2 parts.

If Pat could clone his car and finish the swap, then put an identical set of robots in each car, the fully-swapped car will handle better.

Now you fully swap or already HAVE FE2 on your car. Tune it properly with springs or other devices by ADDING to the suspension where you need it, instead of downgrading some components to FE1.

FURTHER NOTE (thanks to boosty for getting me thinking about this):

THIS TOPIC IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF THE MISINFORMATION AND MISCOMMUNICATION THAT OCCURS WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO PLAN THINGS LIKE THIS OFFLINE.

You MUST have checks and double-checks. This is where it happens, and we really didn't catch it in time.

Yeah :(

Well at least i did not get them in the car

But i went to Advance and returned the springs for some FE2 CC653 and they will be here tomorrow.
And im also going to order my front springs also while im there picking the rears up, because they did not have them at the same warehouse as the rears to they are going to check a local supplier to see if they have them.

.
agreed Bill I like the HANDELING that i have gotten with the 1/2 swap....i will mention that i HATE THE RIDE......the difference between the FE2 back with ELC and the Front FE1 is....dare i say it.....NIGHT AND DAY....the front is floaty at highway speeds and hard braking is VERY lacking.....i have told many members over and over I HATE it I HATE it
I HATE it

and there is an VERY IMPORTANT note....i did not do the 1/2 half swap because i chose to...due to time restraints i was not able to complete my swap in a week.....I wanted to do the full swap, and i plan to very soon....i dont have the money for the new struts given that i just purchased a 03 SSEI ....

the sway bar and the steering rack may be in the car in less than 3 weeks

while im thinking about it....Ryan you still dont have the full FE2 because you still have the FE2 rack

Pat, the RACK has nothing to do with the suspension. And the SSEi rack doesn't come with FE2 by default. It'* an SSEi thing, not an FE2 thing.

The rack won't affect handling, only turning rate.

EDIT:
You will not like the SSEi rack at speeds below 30mph without T2V. You will not like it sam I am, not even with green cars and spam.

Get the T2V pump or don't upgrade to the SSEi rack.

right but i its still a FE2 thing to me....that might not be the correct way to look at it...but what ever

and the T2V pump goes in with the swap

Pat, you're giving what amounts to ADVICE in this topic. Quit calling it an FE2 rack. It'* not. It isn't and never was part of the FE2 package.

My ADVICE to Badnit if he chooses to upgrade to the tighter SSEi rack would be to install the T2V option, correctly wired back to the PCM. Or not upgrade the rack.

Pat, how would you feel if Ryan went to a wrecker and pulled a rack out of an FE2 car (in much the same manner that he got the wrong rear springs today) because you said FE2 rack? And he ended up with the SE rack out of an SLE or SSE with FE2?

Don't give me that rolly eyes emoticon. When I type a warning with my fingers, my brain is actually engaged.
