Back to the MAF Screen....again ???
I hate to rehash an old item but I thought I would pass along a post I read over at 3800 Tech.
What do you guys think ??
You will not gain 5 HP by removing a MAF screen. It is potentially a problem to proper fueling as Chris said. You would be lucky to get any measurable improvement from removing it. The LS6 also looks like it also requires it to be cut out if you did. I run mine with the screen.

I have not felt anything different when I pulled it, at least nothing bad. IMO its just hype for any bad causes, and companies want you to buy their bigger and badder TB'*, to keep everything on a 'safe and good operating level' Maybe I will put my screen back in this weekend and take some readings of airflow with it in and out...

When I had the oldsmobile I removed the maf screen and I gutted my airbox. Hopefully to get a more measurable effect. but it failed to deliver.
I believe that the small gain given by removing the maf screen isn't worht the efficency loss.

To say, "You would be lucky to get any measurable improvement from removing it." I think is wrong. MAF screens slow down air considerably and removing them will provide more air increase. How much more of an increase? Prob. in the 10-15 CFM range. This does not always equal more HP because the MAF can read improperly but does make for interesting possibilities.
I pulley out my screen just to cleen the TB, I tried running the car w/o it in. It idled fine and MAF freq. was higher but for the *** dino it didn't feel different. The LS6 MAF outflows the TB by quite a bit making a good argument for doing a custom setup with the stock MAF removed and an LS6 MAF placed inline. By removing the screen from the LS6 there is potential for more airflow gains but these might be negated by the inaccurate reading of the MAF. The LS6 MAF with screen in outflows the stock MAF setups with screen out. This gives us the potential for full streetability and high flowing performance by using a stock TB (MAF removed) and an LS6 MAF sensor.
