Who has the most powerful L36?

Just wondering who has the most powerful L36 and what power can be attainted within what kind of budget. I'm planning on starting performance mods with my car.

ELMACHOGERACHO 11-13-2005 11:39 PM

do you mean whp? because i doubt many people have dynoed there cars. but i will be soon.

VigCS 11-13-2005 11:42 PM

Just a ballpark guess, I'm more interested in the power difference people with L36s can feel from stock.

My planned mods: 180 deg T-stat, intake, roller rockers. I want to do a camshaft, but that requires too many side additions to be within my budget.

Thats cool.

You seem to have a lot of mods on yours 95naSTA...how much of an increase do you have? =)

J Wikoff 11-14-2005 12:06 AM

Isn't there someone named Vanessa with a lot of ZZP parts running pretty fast?

95naSTA 11-14-2005 12:07 AM

I'm not sure. I was going to dyno/go to the track about a month ago but my tranny started slipping/not shifting at WOT. So Now I have to baby it till i get some $ for a built tranny.

There is a guy Buck I think on MyMonte.com running a LTZ that I think it supposed to be one of the fastest NA 3.8L according to my bro.

That is her (Zoomers G/F)...
Fastest naturally aspirated L36 is Vanessa Heckaman with 12.73@106.37.

PDQ ! If you ask me

VigCS 11-14-2005 11:02 AM

Thats damn fast for an L36. Anyway, Im thinking of putting new roller rockers and spring in as my first internals mod. How hard are they to replace?

1993 SLE 11-14-2005 11:24 AM

Smellbird has some mods done to his 98 L36 and is the only one to ding into the engine other than 95naSTA....Seth ran 15.5 i believe....

big_news_1 11-14-2005 12:49 PM

I would STRONGLY suggest you wait a couple weeks before spending your money..... ;) MyLittleBlackBird and I have something coming down the pipeline that might be a pretty decent cost/horsepower project. We'll be swapping some low-dollar performance mods around and doing a dyno pull afterwards, and you guys might like the results. I don't have any idea how much power we're going to pick up, but it should be decent.

VigCS 11-14-2005 01:59 PM

Wanna share the secret? =) All of this is going to be done over probably a 4-5 month period.

Anybody know of a palce where there is a roller rocker and spring replacement guide?

The secret:

ZZperformance and Intense both sell roller rockers in many different ratios and different pressure springs. But if you are going to get rockers for your L36 then I'd wate for the Comp Cam full roller ER ratio rockers or look for a used set of ZZP ER rocker on ClubGP in there forsale section. The ER rockers seem to be the best for L36 performance.

http://www.zzperformance.com/product...6eb519a86e6bf4 and http://www.zzperformance.com/product...6eb519a86e6bf4 are the only rockers i can find on zzperformance. The remachines stockers seem to be a hulluva lot cheaper.

VigCS 11-14-2005 03:37 PM

I think I'm going to get the intense ones because they come in a 1.9 ratio and are cheaper. How much time am I looking at for replacing the roller rockers?

TJ'sblackbonne 11-14-2005 03:59 PM

might want to think exhaust before rockers if you dont have any done. 3 inch dp would be a great start and a set of PEM's would help. But ask anyone to see any power out of those rockers you have to atleast have a 3 inch dp. Our DP's are horrible restrictive.

VigCS 11-14-2005 04:11 PM

Where can I get a downpipe?

TJ'sblackbonne 11-14-2005 05:02 PM

right now i am in the same boat. Texan32 on clubgp.com use to make them but now has cut back to spend more time with his family so the only thing is to have one custom dont right now. You would have to go to an exhaust shop and have them make you a 3 inch MANDEL bent downpipe.

You mean MANDREL.
These rockers are cheap too:

A CAI/FWI intake, 3" DP, PEM's, and rockers should get you to around 180 WHP.
(edited for being too optimistic)

TJ'sblackbonne 11-14-2005 06:23 PM

yea, sorry about that.
