god am i happy
i have had a busy but productive evening so far.
i got home from work and called a local latemodel stock car owner/driver that has a performance machine shop. he said that he would hot tank, bead tank,do a 3 angle valve job and surface my heads for $130. but he is going to hot tank and bead tank them first and then im going to port and polish them before he does the valve job and surfacing. then i called a salvage yard in philly about a lower intake i saw on line and got it for $65 including shipping to my door. then i called MANLEY valve comp. about stainless steel undercut valves, they said that they dont stock or make them , but if i send them an intake valve and an exhaust valve, they will custom make them for me for about $240 a set for custom valves. which to me isnt too bad concidering they have to blueprint the stock valves to get the specs. the guy at the machine shop said that he would put the lower intake in with the heads for no extra charge to hot tank it and bead tank it.
the bead tank is like a sand blaster , but he uses a different material in it and it makes it like a hurricane in the take, and makes them look brand new.
so once they are tanked, im going to port and match both the heads and the intake.
if anyone is interested in valves for a series 1 motor, ill get them to keep the specs at MANLEY and maybe they may be a little cheaper the second time around.
the key to this operation im doing with the heads ,lower intake , and exhaust manifolds is airflow. i have already ported the exhaust manifolds and have them chromex ceramic coated.
not bad concidering i got the heads from a 92 NA 3.8 for $50 including the guide plates and valve covers too

I'll third the motion at least for the rest of you L27 guys.
If anyone wants to buy the heads and lower intake from my 1992 L27 parts car let me know. Your biggest expense will be the shipping which will be actual shipping cost (discount shipping too as I get discount rates through SPEEDEE, FEDEX, and UPS).
I am about done getting Ol' Blue Eyes in tip-top shape (need a drivers headlight and the Vogues tires need to be mounted on the chrome Torquestars and then she'* up for sale).
I'll be driving a 1996 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer as my brother just bought a 1999 Expedition Eddie Bauer and told me he'd sell me the Explorer for $2500 if I can get the money together by December 1st.

im hoping for low to mid 13'* without nitrous, and want to break into the 12'* with nitrous.
no one makes a cam for us either, so i called comp cams and they did some measuring for me and seems that small block chevy rockers will work and they make the hi tech stainless rockers in a 1.8 ratio which will take the lift from .400" to .450" and add a few degrees of duration too.
the 92 heads use 3/8" bolts to hold the rockers down and have a steel guide plate under them, so im going to work the guide plate so it will allow the push rods to be that close and comp cams make a screw in stud that is 3/8" on the bottom and 7/16" on the top. i just have to adjust the rockers myself instead of just bolting them down. plus i need to send comp cams a stock push rod so they can make me a set of matching pushrods for me motor too but high strength.
