Default ZZP list of "bad mods"

http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/info/bad_mods.htm

They came up with a list of mods that shouldnt be done to our cars. Tranny cooler was the only one that I disagreed with, but thats b/c our tranny jumps when its really hot outside on the highway.

I agree with everything except the trani cooler and the plug wires.

Yes there is a risk of a poor connection whenever modifying stock transmission lines but the benefits outweigh the risk.

Plug wires with less resistance will always give you a stronger spark.

Stronger spark only helps if your stock spark doesn't do enough to fire the cyl at the right time. Sure i bought Taylor Wires, but i also bought AC delco plugs. I wanted quality wires, that looked good, and were bullet proof.

Yes you can't beat the quality of General Motors original spark plugs. Mine were NGK'* right from the factory. So I'm sticking with NGK'*, except getting better quality Iridium ones at two thirds the dealer cost of the original platinums.

Well, none of the ZZP cars run aftermarket wires or coils. On the GTP we run MSD wires, but still stock coils. The stock coils put out plenty of spark, I would never worry about that. Not only that, but aftermarket coils won't give you anything but trouble from what I've seen. New wires don't do crap for performance because the stock wires are plenty good already, but they do make it easier to change plugs and some of them look all pretty too. You could put on stock wires on one car and dyno it and then put 50mm wires on the car and you aren't going to have any difference in HP assuming all variables are the same.

And the tranny cooler, I won't get into too much in depth, but I have NEVER seen tranny temps higher than ~200*F, and most of the time they stay right around 170-180*F from all the autotap logs I have done on GTP'* & SSEi'*. I have run the Autotap on the GTP for 10 or more runs at the track and when it gets all over with and I go to review the last run of the day after a bunch of hot-laps with no cool down time other than waiting in the staging lanes, the tranny temp will read usually around 175*F or so, WHICH IS BELOW THE OPERATING TEMPS FOR OUR TRANNIES. If we put a tranny cooler on it, the tranny would be running WAY too cold. The operating temps for our trannies is 180-230*F, so I don't think there is any reason to put a tranny cooler on it to put the temps way below operating temps. If your tranny is in the colder part of the operating temps (which I have never seen one that wasn't), then a tranny cooler isn't going to do you any good. Will it hurt it, probably not, but it isn't going to help it any. The only time I would ever put a tranny cooler on one of these cars is if I were going to autocross with the car or something like that when you are beating the crap out of it for long periods of time.

Thats my $.02.

I'd only buy them if mine bit the dust.

My Taylors were cheaper then delcos were.

Yeah i dont agree with the tranny cooler either. What they are saying is kind of un intellegant, expecailly that they are in the business. The most likely reason for the failiure in the parts is because they were susepted to too much heat and failed. I do realize that if installed poorly they can leak and you have an even bigger problem, and too little heat in the transmission isn't good either. And maybe if your making enough power even a tranny cooler isn't going to help but i guess the tranny cooler will extend the life of the transmission either way. For example lets say your making 250hp with no tranny cooler and the transmission lasts 50k, and with a tranny cooler it lasts 75K. Í dont know, we could be wrong but i think all logic points to less heat, longer life.
