Hi all,
I have a question for you. What can I do to get some musle back out of my Bonne?
It doesnt have the power like it used to, or like any 3800. I know thw miles it has is onefactor. (131K, in 8 yrs!!! 83K of it mine in 5 yrs). I dont want a racing car, just the punch it had.
Thanx

Miles should make minimal to no difference whatsoever of what the motor is capable of, Several of the faster cars on this site have over 200,000 miles or darn close to it.

If you notice the car is slower or does not perform as well as it used to, there is likely a problem or several problems causing this.

Start with Plugs, Wires, Fuel Filter,Air Filter, fix other nagging problem with your idle, etc.

Then order a throttle body gasket, remove throttle body, remove sesnors and clean the heck out of it till it looks new, you can remove the maf sensor by carefully using rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. You can clean the IAC sensor (little spindle motor thing) with TB cleaner as well and wipe it down with papertowels or whatever.

If your fuel economy is still below what it should be (30mpg highway) look at replacing the o2 sensor WITH A DELCO..bosch are crap for these cars.....

Basically start with a full comprehensive tuneup, after that if it still is not what it should be you may have a failed component somewhere but lets get to the basics first.

Jenni...

Hi.. how much more muscle are you looking for?

Some small gains can be found in the Techinfo area under basic mods. More advanced things can be found with Intense-racing.com and ZZperformance.com.

Default power

Hi And Ty Bill and Hans.
I'm not big on making it a race car or anything like that. I know for a fact that the 3800II
has alot more power than Im getting. Not that its running bad, its not. It just not like the power it had, you know? ( I work for a rental car co. so I know the power the 3800 II
has. oUR FLEET IS 75% 3800 ll. aNDDED Now with the new 3800 III in the GP'*. 3900'* in the Impala LT or LTZ, and the Monte Carlos) I just want it to be like it once was. I did have the intake prob in Sept, and it has a prob since.( posted in another area. hoping to get got ideas why.) But it doesnt have the take off these engines have, slow to get up to speed. I've had the wires, plugs, and air filter changed last yr. Now the fuel filter I havent, but will with the fuel pump, that went friday. AS soon as I get a good idea of what I have to do, to do this.Do you guys have a step by step of how to do the TB?

Thanks

JenniElizabeth,

Are you comparing pickup (especially throttle response, from the sound of it) on your 1998 with that of newer S2'* / S3'*?

I notice exactly that between my 1998 LeSabre and my wife'* 2004 LeSabre. There are differences in the throttle body and, more importantly as I am now learning, the tuning, in 98-99 3800'* (crap stock tuning) vs newer 3800'* (better stock tuning).

I will agree with previous posters that a full, fine-toothed comb tuneup will get back much of what you may be missing.

Hi Jenni,
Please check out the link below from Techinfo that might also prove useful.
Trust me, now that the nice weather is coming around, I'll be following many of these tips myself!

Regards,
Adam

ok thanks guys, I know that some of it have been done. Plugs and wires, done sept when the the plentum failed. And I changed the air filter myself, and the fuel filter, will be done with the fuel pump. Now the TB is it like taking the carb off or is there more to it?
