EGR valve removal and scanner questions
hey guys,
2 questions-
what will happen if i remove my EGR valve in a supercharged series II 96 bonneville?
what type of scanner do i need to use to find out why my traction and ABS lights are on?
thanks-
Brian

Most scanners will not read ABS info on your car. I recently found out that GM still used ALDL modules and unless you have a tech2.. it probably can't read them.

Scanner for traction and ABS is called $80-$100 an hour at the dealer. Our scantools won't read those codes.
Deleting your EGR will hurt your gas mileage and help cause knock. Hurts performance and efficiency. You MIGHT consider doing it when you install an intercooler.
EGR valves actually help keep combustion temps down.

For what gain? The EGR valve works by DISPLACING a small amount of oxygen depending on what the PCM thinks it needs. That'* how it keeps combustion temps down and helps prevent burnt valves. Introdcucing fresh air is the same thing as inducing a vacuum leak. It'* unmetered air that the MAF doesn't see, running you lean and increasig combustion and exhaust temps. That'* actually the LAST thing you want to do UNLESS you have an intercooler.
At that point, you need a PCM to delete the EGR code.

your point about the heat removal is right but that "unmetered" air is the same amount that the PCM would have let in anyway so I dont see how that could be an issue
what about this is it bs?

the intake get INCREDIBLY dirty including the entire supercharger and everything else. I don't see how this doesnt hurt performance

Your link says that gas mileage will suffer by 1 mpg. At $3.25 a gallon for fuel, I respectfully say - H*** NO! Just listen to what willwren says, he has never been wrong on any of these issues that I know of and seems to be very smart.

Also keep in mind the mild coating of EGR/PCV film on your rotors and case can actually have the effect of increasing the efficiency of the supercharger slightly.
ZZP sells the EGR kit primarily for the intercooled cars so the intercooler core doesn't get plugged up. A short burst of water injection would clean that right up though.
In a nutshell, exhaust gasses aren't combustible. That'* why they're used. Air is.
