I have a Magnaflow "Wide Open" muffler with a single 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets on my 1994 SLE (L27 series I 3800 non-supercharged) among a few other mods.
Anyhow, since I had it put on I have never had the low end grunt that I had before.
Anyhow, I am wondering if I should pull the GM performance muffler off my 1992 SE parts car and put it on my 1994 SLE in place of the Magnaflow.
For those not familiar with the GM performance muffler it is stainless steel with a single 2.25" inlet with and dual 2.25" outlets.
I am assuming at low end I will gain and in the higher end lose power, but overall would it be worth it?
My other mods consist of a CAI with a ram air hose from above the left fog light, removed MAF screen, Talyor Spiro Pro wires, NGK V-power TR-55 plugs, superchip (removed at this time), 180* t-stat with two 1/8" drilled holes, and 2 bottles of JB radiator wetter.
Anyhow, let me know what I should do.
I already pulled the GM performance muffler off the parts car, but I have an appointment for Friday to have it put on.
Should I go ahead and have it put on and swap it back If I notice major powerloss being it'* only $20 for each swap?

What kinda power curve do you want in your car? Can you maybe just throw something in there to add a lil back pressure but keep the mufflers sound? Or just make the car faster so it needs it, and get your grunt back that way, and them some.. Cam time!

2.5" in and 2.5" out is perfect for the L27 in my experience. 3" is too big.

I think I'll just pull my resonator and put the GM performance muffler in and take it to the track and see what I actually am improving.
Hey Allmachtige, did you run your car at the strip? If so what were your times?
Just thought it would be cool to compare times as we are both modding basicly the same cars, just yours has 70,000 miles less, and a few more mods, but with a few extra pounds, although not much since my car is a fully loaded (option-wise) SLE.

I agree that 3inches is probably too big, unless your piping is 2.5 inches and you have an adapter that goes up to the 3in. muffler inlet. But I'd just go by what you feel is better. Try the GM one compared to your Magnaflow...maybe run some times with each too. I'd probably prefer the sound of the Magnaflow better, but performance is more important. And the GM performance muffler sounds good anyways. Your call.

Well it would make sense that a 3" pipe could be too big. Just like an instrument, sound is tuned in a car, by the size and shape of the hole that the air passes out of it.

I put in a flowmaster and that seemed to work better than the magnaflow a little bit. But overall i think the car is more responsive and has more power than it did with the gm muffler. My dad has a 1994 ssei same as mine with the stock muffler and no cat, i have the same car with a flowmaster and no cat and mine runs better than his, just pulls throughout the rpm range more. I agree that if you go 3in tubbing and 3in muffler and all you may lose some power but i think your fine if you still have the stock piping.
