Default how to chop intake?

please does anyone know how to (the right way) chop the intake when puting a k&n filter in.

you probably have a diffrent air box than me but i basically chopped off the whole front side of the air box. I also gutted the front part of the box, It was sort of like a funnel and it was 3/4 the diameter of the throttle body(didn't make sence). I left the air box alone after the filter to maintain proper air flow.
