Default Well the DHP pcm is finally in!!!!!!

Just got the PCM installed today. Wow! The car feels stronger than ever. From 40mph the car goes all the way to 1st now and man does it pull. By the feeling of it I am guessing that I was getting quite a bit of KR because it feels a lot stronger everywhere now. I will let you know how it goes.

What year is your car, are you NA or SC, and where did you get the PCM from?

Sweeeeet! What do you think it gave you? This is one of my mods that I am going to do in the near future. So that brings up the questions how much and where?

My car is a 1996 with */C. Our club STLCGP had a DHP day today and Charles met me and 4 other members for an install. STLCGP is a Grand Prix and Regal club but they have let me and 2 Monte Carlo owners in also.

My car is actually only the 2nd 96 bonneville to have the computer so they worked me a deal as a beta test car. The other Boneville owner is one of the programmers for DHP. I believe Scott from Intense might be the only other Bonneville that DHP has done work to but his would be custom I am sure. My guess on horsepower gain is probably 15 - 20 at peak but the car feels like it has added horsepower over the whole rpm range. The transmission shifts quicker but the 4L60 tranny just doesn't shift as nice as the 4T65. In 97 they switched to the 4T65. The skip shifts though are awesome. The front end lifts big time when you hit it at 40mph and it drops all the way to 1st gear. I will let everyone know when I get back to the track as to numbers. Right now my best was a 14.900 with a lousy 2.3XX 60ft. time. That was ran with 3.4" pulley, cone filter, Flowmaster muffler, AC Delco 41-932 plugs, 180 stat, and Taylor wires. On ClubGP they say that a .1 in the 60ft. equates to about .2 in the quarter mile. Not sure if that is true but that would've put me at a 14.5 - 14.6 with a 2.1 60ft. which should be doable once I get used to launching the car. The 14.9 was run with 92 octane and everything still in the car. (2 car seats, spare tire, stroller, and whatever else the wife might've had in the car)

Good stuff man. Now that your making even more power it'* only going to get harder to hook up. I'd look into getting some drag radials on a set of spare rims. Not the cheapest but will solve your traction issues and should get u a 2.0 60ft no problem, especially with a little bit of weight reduction...L8r Andru.

THANKS FOR TESTING OUR UNIT KEN! YOU AND I HAVE THE ONLY 1996 BONNE PERFORMANCE PCMS AROUND!

GEEZ! That much power? Well maybe not that much LOL! What you ARE feeling is power UNDER THE CURVE here Ken! My Bonne still had some KR when HOT but other than that picked up quite a bit after I programmed it. The 1996 Bonneville PCM doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the 1997-Up units as it has 1/2 the Memory on "the chip".

The nice thing is that I now go through the traps in 2nd gear vs bogging on the 2-3 shift near the end of the 1/4 mile! I picked up like 3 tenths with my car like this! The PCM does help transform the car though! I no longer CRAVE buying my buddy'* E-Class
as much!

BTW, we are taking select BETA TESTERS for 1997, 1998 , 1999 and 2000 SUPERCHARGED Bonnevilles at this time. The costs are $250 if you provide us a GOOD WORKING core or $400 if you do not provide me with a core PCM. PLEASE DO NOT DISABLE YOUR CAR TO SEND ME YOUR ORIGINAL PCM because we need to be able to do back to back DRAG testing! If you can come to Detroit we can also dyno your car if you like to secure some dyno time. You are responsible for dyno charges. The 2001 and newer Bonnevilles and NORMALLY aspirated MODELS will be addressed AFTER this program ends. These will be no problem I assume. BTW, BETA testers will be eligible for a final release DHP PCM when we are finished.

We are "DHP" tuning the Bonnevilles for the following mod level:
*************************************
3.4" Pulley
180 Thermostat
K & N Drop in filter
Model Year Specific MAF sensor
Stock 2.93 gears
*************************************

We can do pretty much EVERYTHING that we do for the GTPs PCM-WISE however Bonnevilles have special needs that we are addressing due to weight etc. I have personally found that 3.0 and 3.25 pulleys are problematic unless you have headers/rockers and other mods to help reduce detonation and/or cool the intake charge. Also I DO NOT HAVE DTC information for model years other than 1999 so I cannot disable specific DTC CODES unless you are here in person and are willing to spend the time and money to have me trial and error DTC removal. This REALLY only affects those of you with COLD thermostats on 2000 and up models.

Anyone that would like a custom tune here in Detroit will not have to wait for the beta program to open up as we will tune your car on the spot. Custom dyno tuned Bonneville PCM'* are $400 PLUS dyno time.

As a comparison I had put a Hypertech chip in my Mustang and noticed very slight horsepower difference. The DHP pcm is not like that. The car responded way better than I ever expected. To me the skip shifts were worth the money themselves. The only downside I have found is it'* my wifes back and forth to work car so I only get to drive it on the weekends. Of course, that is probably better for the transmission. I think Charles liked my first DHP launch but the transmission probably didn't. It does seem like everytime I hit it yesterday it felt faster. I can't believe the car still got 23mpg yesterday considering I was constantly flooring it all the way back from Springfield.

Simply place the switch to NORMAL for the wife! Also be sure to use the best PREMIUM you can find with this calibration! Yes, those 41 mph 2-1'* do shorten trans life that IS A GIVEN! I manage 22-23 overall driving very aggressive and 28 + still on trips. I do NOTHING to affect fuel economy and idle or part throttle performance. In performance mode the trans will upshift and downshift more to give the car some pep!
