Default some digimoto readouts... are these right?

did some driving w/digimoto hooked up over the weekend, in a somewhat related story my intake fell off while on the interstate, but that'* another thread. cruising at 60mph, 1800-1900 rpm, timing is pulled by 38 degrees. it makes it up to 15-12 degrees retard on hard acceleration, but these numbers seem awfully retarded, pun intended. is my pcm pulling too much timing?

could be too much heat. What are they normally?

Every 1997 PCM I've ever scanned always showed negative spark advance numbers. Somewhere there is a problem between the scanning programs and the 1997 PCMs that doesn't exist in later models.

so you're telling me those aren't the actual numbers?

Yep, think about it...if your timing was pulled 38 degrees at any point your motor wouldn't be making much power.

I focus on Knock Retard when scanning and ignore the timing advance figures when looking at my 1997.

Are you sure you were not looking at ignition timing? Your timing would be high 30'* under cruise and drop to 15-18 at WOT.

is there more than one kind of timing? i'm assuming it was ignition timing, i.e. how many degrees off TDC the spark is delivered. so you're saying these are normal readouts?

Yes for ignition timing these are normal. If your looking for KR then you should have a knock retard parameter. Stock timing at WOT should be 15-17 anything less then this at WOT indicates knock retard as the pcm will retard timing down. For example at WOT if you start at 17 and it drops to 11 then you can pretty much be assured you have up to 6 degrees of KR.

It'* weird on the 97s Todd, for some reason the ignition timing value is shown as a negative value. I thought maybe you could just take off the negative and interpret it as positive it would be right, but it'* not right when checking at WOT versus KR. It'* really odd for the 97s, I don't understand what'* going on.

Cheers,
