Default popping or backfiring

Hi everyone
i was just wondering I have an 03 Bonneville with no supercharger and it has a magnaflow muffler and when I Romp on the accelerator to really get moving as soon as i let off my exhaust kinda pops or backfires is this normal or not?

also i want to put a thrasher cold air intake on it and a high flow cat and have the resonator taken off please tell me what u think about that does it sound like a good idea or not?

thanx i would really appreciate your opinions

The popping can be normal. And it'll get worse if you remove the resonator.

My 93 SSEi came from the factory with no resonator. I ADDED one to complete my Magnaflow setup.

I think that there are better options out there for us than the Thrasher. It still uses the accordian feed tube, which is bad for laminar flow. It'* better than stock, but not the best.

For you, I'd go with an INTENSE FWI or a JMB.

Go with a Magnaflow hi-flow cat. You have a rear O2, so make sure you select one with a rear 02 Bung.

You will probably gain about 5-10 horsepower with the intake and cat. You MAY lose a little bottom end.

Moving to Performance and Brainstorming.

The Thrasher is a nice looking intake and does the job well. Sure, it'* not as laminar as other intakes, but I doubt it will be restrictive. It woke up my car nicely.

The biggest downside to it is the price. You can get a much cheaper intake that does the same job.

And it would have to be hacked to fit his car.

Hey there, if you do a search for rice pipe you will find a much better way of doing a CAI. Or as others have pointed out the FWI.

I prefer the rice pipe option, I don't really go for the way the FWI looks. The Thraher intake is quite pricey too, the best I remember.

I am also looking to do the Magnaflow hi-flow cat mod.

This is just my opinion, hope it helps.

being u guys are so helpful when i decide to do my spark plugs and wires i would like to know what u think would be best. Also i have a 195 thermostat in is that good or should i change it i mean i thought about going with a 180 but if i done that i am not sure if it would go into closed loop or not. I liked the Intense Intake but will that work better with the filter just sitting in the front like that with no box or anything the thrasher comes with a box. I dont mean to sound like an idiot but me and these new cars dont quite understand eachother
