Throttle body heater

I got thinking...the throttle body on my LN3/L67 has coolant passages from the supercharger. I guess this is supposedly to keep the butterfly from sticking in extreme cold.

Would there be any performance gain if this was plugged off? Worthwile project to do if it's off? Seems like a dumb thing to have. I feel sorry for those that have spent hundreds on cold air intakes :(

i dont know about L67s but i know there was a study on that and it gained hp and lowered TB temps.

97+ L36 throttle body coolant plug

actually there was a thread on this recently....i would not plug it off....the supercharger is actually hotter than the engine coolant when doing spritired runs....the coolant will actually cool down the SC and the TB

Not to steal this thread, but it is slightly related... On my 94 N/A, there are coolant ports from the lower intake to the upper intake. Considering I don't have a S/C to keep cool, what are your thoughts on plugging mine off? I can see cooler intake temps, but would it really be enough to be even slightly beneficial?

First of all, the TB plug is STUPID. It still lets the coolant heatsoak the TB. If you want to do this, do it right and plug it in the LIM.

Secondly, what Pat said above that the SC gets too hot on spirited runs is NOT TRUE. The Jury (me) is still out on this. I'm doing testing and development right now on multiple manifolds and cars, as is ssei1995 (Joe).

So we don't KNOW what the long-term all-around effect is YET. But we will within 60 days.

I was saying that the Coolant was to cool the SC...i never said that it got too hot....i was referring to your post Bill in a similar topic shown here

sorry for the confusion

Where did you get this information or come to this conclusion? I'd like to know, because this is exactly what I'm trying to determine by testing on my own cars.

A few days before this particular thread came about there was a similar thread and IIRC SB2000 and yourself were in a discussion about the effects on coolant and the SC...
you guys came to the conclusion when looking at the temps reached at the Woodburn drag strip that the coolant was actually cooler than the SC while at the track, and it effectively cooled down the SC and the TB.....

Edit....here is the thread about the track temps

MAYBE. But who cares about the dragstrip? We use ICE on the superchargers there. You're talking about conclusions that have not been made nor tested. I want to know what the EVERYDAY effect is. This isn't something you can bypass for the track and then change for the street. It's a fairly permanent change.

Let's not mislead people with conclusions that were jumped to. Let's leave the conclusions to those who are testing the theories and have THEM post the actual results and make the reccomendations.

In the meantime, I don't suggest ANYONE do this until the results are tested. If you want to anyway, it's your car.

i edited my orignal post to reflect the 2 threads that talks about the coolant and the SC...

i had assumed that a spirited run was 'like' running at the track

I apoligize for the confusion
