crzy, there are no throttle cables. There's a TPS (in a sense) and a spring to give 'feedback' on the throttle pedal. That signal from the sensor drives a servo (motor) to open or close the throttle plate in the TB.

Which is one of the reasons that I needed the whole car. I needed the gas pedal.

In a nutshell..it's a bad idea  Seriously, like Will said, the drive-by-wire (A play on the old "Fly-by-Wire") is just using a servo motor to run the throttle plates directly..no throttle cable (Like a super sized IAC motor.)

Another option (Similar to what I am doing to my '90) is to use an older throttle body and a plate to convert the flange between the TB and the SC. This avoids the drive-by-wire problem.

I'm excited about using the electronic trottle. Dont see it as a problem.

I gotta find a junkyard with a torque axis mount, and a sec gen subframe. What years guys? 99 sound good for both?

willwren 05-23-2007 10:38 AM

99 would be the best, but honestly, anything from 92-99 will work. The 92-94 L27's may not have beat up the TA mount enough to matter.

The TA mount is also easy to replace and relatively cheap. It comes with the FENDER side stuff new. The iron bracket on the engine side you see in my pics is what you'll need for sure.

Have you driven one yet with the Drive-By-Wire? The '07 Pontiac we bought has it and I really dislikeit. The lack of feedback and lag on the throttle is a bit irritating. I'll take my cars with the cables and springs

Will,

I finally got a good look at your pic of the TA. Are the bolts coming off the block part of the block or are they like some kinda of threaded rod?

KEOTOK 06-05-2007 04:53 PM

Nevermind I think that is the ground post that sits under the ignition module.

KEOTOK 07-09-2007 02:23 PM

Alright I have everything but the exhaust downpipe and the drive shafts disconnected on the Bonney. Anyone know the size of the drive shaft nut (Hub nut)? I need to get a socket.

34mm. A 500 fl/lb impact wrench will make it very easy.
