Supercharger how to ?? 96-97

I keep hearing everyone saying that as long as theirs oil in the supercharger.. it'll be ok.. my question is.. how do you check it ?? Does it use motor oil ?? How would you check it if its at a dealership.. I'm looking at purchasing a 97 Bonneville SSEI, but had a bad encounter with a 96 SSEI at another dealership.. it felt like the supercharger was boosting only in burst... so obviously I'm not going with the 96. Quick question also... what would be the price range for a 96 and 97 SSEI in Canada ??

P.S. to moderator...
Wouldn't it be nice to have a "how-to" on any ( if any ) supercharger maintainance/checkup??

There is a hex key bolt near the base of the snout. I cannot remember if it is under the Supercharger engine cover or if it sticks out. The oil should be just barely touching the bottom of the threads on the hex bolt. Make sure the car is cool before checking. The Supercharger takes a special oil which you can purchase at a GM dealer. Pontiac and Buick dealerships should have it in stock. It takes 2 2oz. bottles and in the US I believe they are $6 - $7 a bottle. I actually changed mine altogether just to be safe. I took 1 of my old Armor All bottles and took the sprayer head and tube out and stuck it into the supercharger oil and sprayed it out. It took awhile to get it mostly drained but I just wanted to make sure it was clean oil in it. Be careful with the oil because it is made of animal fats so it smells worse than any oil you will ever smell. It is disgusting smelling but it works.

I am not sure of pricing but I have seen 96 - 97 Boneville SSEi's from $8,000 - $13,000 depending on mileage and shape. Last year I paid $13,000 for mine but it is fully loaded and only had 39,000 miles on it. Hope this helps.

GM Supercharger oil pt# 12345982
You can also use SYNTHETIC MOBIL 1 5W30 OIL! Some dealers use this instead because it's cheaper to buy. BTW: I work as a GM Partsman for a Pontiac Dealership in Back Parts.

:D Thanx for all the info.. I will certainly look into the supercharger oil when looking for the bonnie... is there anyway to check and see if the oil in the supercharger is good or not?? ( Like with tranny fluid... if it smells burnt.. there's a problem ) Should it be drained...? Do you know what size the hex bolt would be? ( So I can have the right tool when inspecting for a possible Bonnie )The only problem I got now is trying to get a loan since my ex-fiance messed up my credit good 4 years ago. Woman I tell ya...
