Those intakes are too small, air filter will be to far back, and will take in alot of hot air UNLESS you can fab up a really nice heat sheild..
I bought one for like a civic/accord and trimmed it from there..

Is it better to gut the air box and drop in a performance filter? I was going to go that route but happen to see these items on Ebay...looked too good to be true (read cheap).

There really isn't that much to them. They are cheap. A high mark up item from some vendors.

eBay intake: (1) The pipe is too short. (2) The filter isn't K&N, and often breathes so badly they're said to hold water if you were to test it by filling it like a mug. (3) The seller gouges you on shipping and handling charges to make up for the "too good to be true" price. (...if it sounds to good to be true...)

Follow our advice, get the Autozone intake pipe, cut it to fit, use a K&N filter with a sillicone coupler. Enjoy.

Gutting the airbox and dropping in a K&N on a 95 NA won't really do that much for power. And there'* not much to 'gut' on a 95 airbox, unless you're talking about cutting it open and running additional tubes into it. If you had an L67 a K&N drop-in would help a little more.

However, on the 96-2000+ gutting it can help a lot.

actually Pete the Airbox on the 95 is similar to the 96+...so gutting may give you some gain

if you do a Rice Pipe then you need a good heatshiled

Ahhh, right. I'm thinking about my Series 1 airbox and how retarded it is.

What ever the intake system you will get, this is not going to give you a lot of HP.
But a good one will prevent that your engine suck hot air and lose power.

You can do the rice pipe, CAI , i dont know if you have space to do a fender well intake, but if you do a Cold air intake, just make sure the filter is away from heat, by making a heatshield.
