160 degree stat

Default 160 degree stat

I have a 180 degree thermostat right now and was thinking of moving to a 160 for the summer and transferring back the 180 for the winter. MY S1X is going to be on the way friday and i really want to change this in the cam install. Will this trip any codes and if it does what do i need to do

i believe it will set a code for it not warming up in suffecient time. your in wisconsin. stick with the 180 during the summer. if you even drive it durring winter go with a 195 and dont drive it hard all day

if your going with a cam, then you'll definitely want to go with some PCM work too. as long as the tuning in the PCM reflects the 160, then you will be all set.

however with stock PCM programming, the 160* WILL set a code, however, i assume that you will have a custom PCM to match the cam

A 160 may be too cold for you but if you do decide to go with it then Toasted is right on. Custom PCM programming to match the fan points to the 160, turn off codes, and allow you to get the most out of your cam is the way to go.

Leave the 180 thermostat year-round and get the cam tuning.

I strongly suggest losing the 20W-50 oil before your cam (ASAP).

I will get the pcm custom tuned but it doesn't make sense to tune it twice. In that case it will be programmed for the cam and the stat and istall it with the cam.

WHY SHOULD I NOT USE THE 20W-50 OIL?

Try a search. I found a topic from you on the 16th where it was discussed, as well as this recent one:

Why? Because the engine was designed for 10W-30. You will damage your engine long-term. Nobody but you runs that tar for a reason. I'm very concerned about it, and would love to see you give the oil pump and engine a break.
