Slicks.

If there is one thing I've learned in my limited experience in drag racing, it's Traction is Key.

I've done far more racing in my Firebird than the Bonne.....so I'm almost ready to make the plunge for MT drag wheels and slicks primarily for the Bird.
I'm shooting for 12's with my caminated Bird :!:
15" x 10" with 26" Mickey Thompson drag slicks.
The bolt patterns for both these Pontiacs are the same 4 3/4" but of course the offsets are way off.

What do you guys think of running with this combination on my SSEi :?:

They will stick out about 5" beyond the fenders but the traction should be unreal.
Would that even be acceptable at a track :?:

Would you be able to run the 15's with your front brake rotors? I think 16" wheels are a minimum for our cars?

Yes, of course you're right.

It was a crazy idea.

I am looking for a pair of salvaged Torque Stars.....but I think they are only 7" wide.

What size are your rotors? 92-99 cars can have 15" wheels.

I think SSEi's have 16" wheels. The LSS does. Looking at the 93' and 97' in the garage the difference seems even more than that.

the cheepo SE's have 15" steelies with wheel covers

there is a 01 GTP at the track in sacramento that has 15" wheels
(short slicks 8.5x23.0-15)car runs low 12s. go to a tire shop and pop a wheel off and see if you can get a 15" to fit your car, most tire shops will do that for free.

GTP's brakes are 1" smaller. I am almost positive 15's won't fit on an SSEi. I know that GTP's have a problem with some of the stock wheels fitting with aftermarket brake kits that have bigger rotors (which are the same size as the stock SSEi rotors), so I really can't see 15's even coming close to fitting. Is there 2" clearance between the calipers and your stock wheels...I'm pretty sure there's not.

Slicks will sure drop your track times. I'm personally looking for a set of slicks for my STE...when I get up the courage to bring it to the track with tranny number 3, I'm not gonna mess around. I'm also going to run 100 octane gas and also try to run 12psi. I run 8.5 on the street, and usually ~10psi at the track (still on pump gas, just don't like to stress the tranny as much on the street), but when i get to the track I'm gonna make it count. I'm gonna try to get deep into the 13's with the stock turbo, in which people have said isn't capable of putting one of these cars into the 13's. By my calculations, it *should* easily do ~13.5's with a 1.8 60'.

plus yer bonne has a 5x115mm bolt pattern which in SAE comes to about 5x4.5" a little different from the 5x4.75" pattern on the F bod......try some GrandPrix TS's with some 25x8.5x16 slicks...a little shorter than stock but thatll just give er a shorter overall drive ratio....shorter gears=more usable torque

You could get a set of race brakes from INTENSE which will allow you to run 15" rims, but of course these would not be good for the street. BADSSEi runs these and a 15" rim/slick combo.
