Lightbulb Waterpump idea!?

In theory could you get an "upgraded" water pump for the L67 Series II, and improve engine cooling? I'm just trying to think of different ways to cool the engine better, besides getting a t-stat or an arm. razysmile:

How much are electric water pumps? What'* the rate of failure versus the average joe water pump.

Electric water pumps cost nearly $300, and give only negligible HP gains. To cool better you can use a overdrive pulley, ZZP has those. The best price to cool better is a lower thermostat.

I think a $9 Thermostat versus a $300+ electric cooling system is value added and will make a big difference. If you drop down to a 180 and go with a one heat range colder plug, you'll be very happy. Then if you want colder, overdrive your pump.

Well I had already known about those options, just curious as to what an alternative option would be. Thanks for taking the time to post though.

I'm reasonably built up. Ok..maybe I'm pretty far along and have little left to do.

I swapped to an electric pump because the price was right from a buddy. I've noticed no differences from mechanical except that you can run it with the engine off. And at idle the flow will be higher than a mechanical as the RPM of the engine aren't a factor.

Not sure if a 92-99 Bonneville can fit an overdrive pulley inside the torque axis bracket. You'd need to do some measuring to ensure it would work.
