Default 19 h.p. out of an intake

I replased the factory air box with a air intake and got 19 more fly wheele h.p. Stock i ran 16.0 @ 85.1 m.p.h. and with the new intake i ran 15.6 @85.7 m.p.h. The m.p.h didnt go up much but the e.t. did. 19 h.p. i am impresed. I talked to a few of you about a pulley going from the stock 2.85" to a 2.5" pulley. How much more psi would that give me? Remember my car has 196,000 so i dont want to be pushing in to much psi. All help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Daren

there is NO WAY you could have gotten 19hp out of an intake! Did you use one of the hp calculators off the internet? Those are usually a little high in the readings that they give you. Your track times could have changed from lots of stuff, like RT, traction, weather, etc. the intake gave your probably in the neighborhood of 5hp.

What was the weater difference between the two dates? As I've said before weather can greatly affect forced induction cars. As for the HP calculators they are guide at best and should not be taken seriously for HP. Your only way to know for sure is a dyno. 5 or 19 you should be happy with the CAI, congratz.

If I got an extra 10hp outa mine I would be delighted! I think i may have uped it 5 or 6 hp! Do you have an airbox or did you make one and a heat shield? You had to of had both and then some! Sounds kinda fishy to me!

Guy'* let'* try not to knock anyone here.

I too kinda doubt 19 hp, but that'* not to say the one to fault is the author of this thread, but maybe a hp calculator or someone else (remember those readings I said I had gotten -I had gotten quotes from knowledgable people for what I should expect and none near what the hp calcalator'* said). 5-8 is more like it, but like was said above, there is alot that could have changed (traction, air density, ambient air temp, and the engine temps, KR, 02 readings, etc..).
15.6 isn't too shabby either for a 1994/95 SSEi with just a CAI.
As for the the smalelr pulley, if everything is in excellent running order (engine and SC sound good, you're not getting any KR and the trans isn't complaining in any way) I'd say go for it. You'll definitely gain with the smaller pulley + CAI. Now do the exhaust and you'll definitely know it.

PS -How do you like that SC whine from the CAI? Need some cheese with that whine? J/K

P.*.*. Be sure to let us know how you like the smaller pulley, and if you can get a 1992/93 stock original sc pulley -it'* like a 2.55" and will be cheaper -if you can find one.
Good luck,
Martin

sorry if I came off as a little aggressive, nothin against you, red79vette. I WISH you could get 19hp out of an intake. A heatshield of some sort will give you a few more ponies too.

Good recovery. I'd hate to poke you with a sharp stick in public.

19 hp is what I'd expect from a pulley, not an intake. Or maybe an intake and partial exhaust job. When I tested my heatshield setup, I did back to back runs with it off, on, off, on, off, on, and averaged.

Increase your sample size for more accurate results.

better watch that stick boy, I gotta pretty big one myself!

redvette, look in junkyards for that pulley or see if a GM dealer can get you one cheap. Be sure you know the Pulleyboys price+shipping so you get a good deal.
