Keep in mind that in the late 80's - early 90's GM was trying to breath life into the aging V6. A company called Advanced Vehicle Concepts (AVC) in Grand Blanic, MI came up for a turbo kit for the V6, just like Wheel to Wheel or SLP does today. While GM was very intrested in the work AVC was doing. GM already had a program in place for a supercharged 3800 with Eaton. So more then likly GM didn't build an engine for a supercharger just b/c they were not sure that the future of the 3800 was going to be with a supercharger. |
It'll be pretty hard to convince me. My FSM says otherwise.

That's too bad, because a turbo has more potential for tuning and power increases (...and more potential for grenading your engine). As I recall, the 3800 turbo had a very different power delivery from the 3800 supercharged engine. There was a definite midrange surge that was fun compared to the more linear power delivery in the factory supercharged cars. Current fleet: 1994 SSEi 2003 SRT-4 S1 |
From the information I've been able to glean from various sources, the Turbo GN was a testbed for SC, as Eaton wasn't ready to deliver a solution yet.

Yah they were running a really tiny turbo on that AVC Bonneville too, BIG room for upgrading! Does anyone know anyone with one of these bonneville's or one of the kits?? Hey titanium, I've heard AVC is now Wheel to Wheel, do you know if that is true??
