I've been talking to a few fiero guys that have gotten pretty deep in to the L27 and L67 series I's. They said that rods was the only difference between the motors. I personally was not totally convinced (just like I'm sure a few of you guys aren't), So I sat down and for countless hours looking up parts and with the help of a friend working at a GM dealership looking up part #'s for me, we came up with only the difference was the rod part #'s.

Keep in mind that in the late 80's - early 90's GM was trying to breath life into the aging V6. A company called Advanced Vehicle Concepts (AVC) in Grand Blanic, MI came up for a turbo kit for the V6, just like Wheel to Wheel or SLP does today. While GM was very intrested in the work AVC was doing. GM already had a program in place for a supercharged 3800 with Eaton. So more then likly GM didn't build an engine for a supercharger just b/c they were not sure that the future of the 3800 was going to be with a supercharger.

It'll be pretty hard to convince me. My FSM says otherwise.

Great stuff...I worked for AVC in 1990 performing emissions certification and durability testing on the 3800 turbo kit. The turbo kit produced about 210 hp. The introduction of the factory L67/M62 supercharger killed the market for a turbo, though.

That's too bad, because a turbo has more potential for tuning and power increases (...and more potential for grenading your engine). As I recall, the 3800 turbo had a very different power delivery from the 3800 supercharged engine. There was a definite midrange surge that was fun compared to the more linear power delivery in the factory supercharged cars.

Current fleet:
1994 SSEi
2003 SRT-4 S1

From the information I've been able to glean from various sources, the Turbo GN was a testbed for SC, as Eaton wasn't ready to deliver a solution yet.

Yah they were running a really tiny turbo on that AVC Bonneville too, BIG room for upgrading! Does anyone know anyone with one of these bonneville's or one of the kits?? Hey titanium, I've heard AVC is now Wheel to Wheel, do you know if that is true??

Nice Jay!! That is now 2 fiero guys I've seen with the swap done and him. Soon there will be a Bonne done too. I think this is enough proof to prove teckinfo is wrong!

The L36 kit is being released soon, and that engine is harder to boost because of it's higher compression.

Yep I was talking about the L27 part of it.
