It'* time... 2000 Impala LS build up
Yes, that'* right. I miss my boost... Now that I have an actual income (haha), I'm planing on building up my Impala. The first thing I'm doing is going with an Intense tranny rebuild, not sure of the options yet. After that, I'd LIKE to do an L67 top end swap, but I guess I'm still up in the air with the other two options (N/A, turbo). I'd like to be around 300 WHP when I'm done, so it'* enough to stand out, but it won't diminish the daily driver aspect. So here'* my list as of now; any opinions would be awesome:
L67 Top Swap (ported as best I can)
FWI
MPS (Probably would start with the 3.2)
Gatorback belt
180 tstat
Yella Terra Roller Rockers
3" Downpipe with O2 simulator and highflow cat
Pacesetter Headers
SLP Exhaust
Stage 2 Heads and Cam down the road
Keep in mind, this won't be overnight. This will probably be a 1-3 year project.
Now, what options do you think I should go with for the tranny rebuild, keeping that in mind?

I think you should decide if you are doing a top swap or L67 swap or doing a turbo before you plan a transmission. I don't like the idea of boosting a L36 do to the weaker rods I just don't think it would hold up as something with L67 rods or even better L32 rods would.
But you can always get the FWI & headers before hand since those will be used no which route you choose.

Well first if you get headers then they will be a waste if you go turbo, so figure that out.
Next i LOL at your comment about a 3.2 pulley. If you are top swapping then sorry but even with those mods a 3.2 is way too small for the high compression L36 bottom. If you want to run a 3.2 you better think a cam and probably atleast a SS IC. Or else i would think maybe a 3.8 or you MIGHT be abkle to get away with a 3.5 with a good tune and stuff.

Any also if you go headers then you dont need a 3 inch downpipe.
And the SLP exhaust is more for sound then anything. You would be in more better shape spending that money to more mods that will help you FLOW then the exhaust.

Ha, yeah a tubro and standard headers wouldn't work very well together
I'm not debating the amount of power it could make. I'm speaking of reliability, this isn't going to be a track queen we are talking about a street car that won't be torn down and looked over all the time.

Yes they can make power... But from what I have understood over the years, The Bone Stock L36 bottom end should be reliable to 300hp...
No matter what has been done with the stock L36 bottom end and proven, I'd still be very tempted to use an L67 bottom end... after seeing the rods and wrist pins between the L36 and 67 I'd build the 67 for what you want it to do...
And for what ever odd reason, several of the 95'* seem to be hurting wrist pins
A swap seems like a good choice..

Pete...before you decide whether to top swap, turbo or L67 swap. Talk to your local performance guys. I haven't seen them steer anyone wrong yet.
When my lower end checked out.. I made some calls and was talked out of the L36 bottom end for reliability on a DD
As for the rear O2 sim..why? Currently Caspers is dealing with the government on them and it'* an issue. I run a rear O2 with no troubles.
