Have we figured out if we can prefab a fwi for our cars yet? I read about gutting air boxes and stuff but didn't see any pictures or read anymore where anyone with a gxp had done it or if it were worth doing. any info I'm missing?

Oh sorry I figured since I was asking about gxp'* specifically this is where it went.

You can not use up the flow the OEM airbox on the GXP has now. . So why gut it? There is no, and most likely will not ever be any mods that make gutting practicle. It has attentuators and flow guides that help the system achieve the performance it has now. Gutting it will not give You an iota of extra performance. It pulls nice cold air from the front of the engine compartment already. It is of a totally different design from what the other Bonnevilles have. And much, much larger.

I disagree completely.

L36'* without boost and only 3800 CC'* of displacement have been benfiting from gutted airboxes for 5 years on this Forum.

It'* not a question of what can outflow what. It'* a matter of creating the most efficient path of flow possible for greater power and throttle response.

If the inside of the airbox has baffles and resonators, it will benefit you in performance if you gut it. I suggest taking a couple good pics of it in place, then pull it out, open it up, and take some more.

The INTENSE FWI may work the way it is in complete kit form. Considering the owner of INTENSE played a bit with his own GXP, I bet they would know the answer to that question.

Thats Your opinion Will, And I think you are comparing apples to oranges. The L36 is not an LD8, not engineered by a performance engineering team, nor was the L36 made to be a performance engine. I have run my GXP with out an air box totally with the maf and tube hanging and seen no appreciable power difference. Seemed not as good. I take exception to you suggesting people gut out almost new vehicles based on your experiences with totally different much older drive train. I am not young, naive, or uneducated in the matters of airflow technology and have done alot of reading and study before I decided against gutting. Thus is not a */C application where all the air you can get is a plus. The attenuators and resonators in the GXP laminate the air flow across a MAF. It is lightyears ahead of what you are accustomed to dealing with. Gutting the airbox is going to delaminate the air and screw with extremely precise MAf settings I feel the little flow effiency you hope to create is only going to be offset by screwing up PCM settings in place. The two MAF'* and PCM'* are no where near each other in complexity. You can just touch a GXP MAF assembly (it is not a screen, rather the final component in the lamination process) and delaminate air flow and make the engine sputter.
