Default Resonator removal/Speakers below dash/Air ride/Dynomax

I'm wondering about removing my resonator..I'll probably go get a price quote on the work tomorrow. Should I replace it with a straight-through 2.5" pipe? I've seen people say that 3" is too big unless I have a SC(), which I don't. Rough estimates on HP gains/sound increase in dB, someone? Hector?

ALSO, I noticed on my '99 SLE there'* a BIG gap under the dash in the middle of the car, infront of the shifter and just below the radio and such. I'm wondering..would it be too hard to put a speaker or two in there, maybe an 8" sub or twin 6x9'*? I'm thinking there'* nothing but the exhaust just below that..perhaps put a heat shield down below, and plunk a sub in flush with the surface. It'd look great..be the only one in the US, most likely, and give a little more texture to the front speakers' sound.

What about the air ride/touring/performance suspension options..Could I rip the equipment off a '99 SLE with those options and slap it into my car, without cutting into anything? Should be a direct swap.

Then..dynomax mufflers. Turbo or Ultra Flo, and which would require the least welding, seeing as they're both shorter than the stock muffler?

Thanks guys..=)

I skimmed through your post, so sorry if I miss something.

Go with 2.5" exhaust diameter if you have an NA. Dynomax is good, but I'm sure others will disagree....hey it all comes down to personal preference.

Removing the resonator helps alot in sound and air flow. Don't worry, it won't attract the cops unless you pull up next to one and rev at him and swearing how hes a pig and spit on his door then pass gas his way.....THEN he may come after you.

Speakers under the consoul would not be recomended because of the heater. I thought of it too.

Do a 2.5" catback system. Best idea, I am developing a cat-back system now so you can either wait or spend your $$$ at a muffler shop, up to you. I am all about performance. As far as muffler choice, Dynomax or Magnaflow. Either one, it really is your choice, but also depends which muffler you pick because just there is more than 1 muffler design in each manufacturer'* Part Number'* books. HP gains depends on how much you have opened up the rest of the engine. Probably around 10-15HP (crank). Sound increase is depending on what you change you muffler to and such but it will increase above stock.

You could put a sub in that space, anything is possible but not always a good idea. Better to just get kickpanels. Why would you want to put the air ride suspension on your car, I would suggest most likely switching out the springs to SSEi'* which are stiffer for better handling and better struts as well as aftermarket swaybars/bushings.

All mufflers are going to require the same amount of welding no matter how long they are. You can get different sizes, that'* pretty much it but amount of welding doesn't change ever.

If you want to hear back for the audio make sure you put that in the right section

and removing the res won't do much for flow because it is just about as good as a straight pipe, its mainly a sound thing, don't forget opening it all up too much will kill your low end powerband too, especially with NA engines, the same can be said for a supercharged engine too beacuse all that is is forced air on top of the engine, now if you had a turbo thats a different story
