Replacing roots with centrifugal

Has anyone thought of, or actually performed a replacement of the roots supercharger with a centrifugal design of equivalent or even greater boost?

I've heard that the roots type superchargers apparently leech quite a large amount of hp from the engine to produce boost. I've also heard that centrifugal designs are much more efficient and don't leech nearly as much HP as the roots design.

Provided this is correct, wouldn't replacing the roots with a centrifugal design be more efficient while producing the same amount, or more boost while leaving more HP to be put to the wheels?

I guess what could be done is mounting a drive shaft to the engine with a pulley on one end of the shaft which would be connected to the supercharger drive belt (or use a dual pulley to be incorporated into both belts for a better "grip"), then the supercharger would be connected to the drive shaft on the other end of the engine bay where all components of the intake and filtering system are located (unless your were moved elsewhere).

I suspect this drive shaft would need to be very finely balanced and the mounting angle of the shaft and the supercharger would need to be perfectly aligned to prevent vibrations which would grow exponentially as the engine increases in RPM Some sort of custom upper intake would obviously be needed, probably not to hard to locate (or one could be customly manufactured... $$$)

This isn't something i will be doing anytime soon due to the lack of $$$, but to me, it seems like a respectable "upgrade".

If anyone has anything to add, or any comments on this, they're more then welcome.

the CSC blower is a more efficient blower IMO.
what year Bonnie do you have?
i know on the L67 the blower i put over by the air box so your increasing parasitic loss by sending the power across the front valve cover.
i have a picture of the set up.

depending on what your looking for, i would only see this being worth it if your doing some Serious modifications to your car. you could also look into the M112.

the CSC sound incredible, and look cool but not worth the Money IMO

Now I don't know too much about it, but will there be any lag to get it spinning until it can maintain itself perpetually?? I think the CSC blower takes more to initialize, right?

Here are some Pics i took at IDD4 in Ohio last month

No there is no lag on a CSC. There is no lag on any supercharger because the centrifugal inertia is transfered directly to the supercharger. The only thing that has lag, is a turbo. Thats because of the design of it. A turbo uses air flow itself which comes from the exhaust system, to create it's boost. If you don't understand where it comes from, take a comptuer fan out of your computer, and blow on the concave portion of the blades very hard and you will notice by the sound you will hear that the fan spins up. Take note of how your blowing with the same force, but you can still hear that whining sound increasing in speed. Turbo lag is just that. It only happens because it uses forced air to spool the blower.

Get it now?[/b]
