Removing the MAF Screen: Pros and Cons

What are the pros and cons of removing the MAF Screen? I realize it will increase airflow into the throttlebody, but will it improve performance that much?
Also, will the MAF Sensor be as accurate without it?
Thanks

I'm unsure exactly how it effects the sensors and such.

I just pulled mine out this afternoon and I got a noticeable performance increase. My boost was up about 1-2 psi on the high end and there was a little more torque available.

The only downside that I saw is that the idle was a hair rougher but I think I am about due for a tunup anyways.

Overall I am glad I did it.

I did the samething to my the other day and at the same time the CAI also, like ssei95 said the idle seem to be a little more rougher but the increase of the performence was worth the sacerfice.

You guys have a rougher idle when you removed your MAF screen? I would assume its because of the stock airbox or your CAI's are not effective enough. My idle didn't change at all, its was all pro's, better top end and such.

Well, I went ahead and took my screen off. It doesn't seem to have made much difference, except maybe a little snappier off the line. But it makes me feel better knowing it's gone!

I am not running with the stock air box, I am running a 3" flex hose to a #" filter. I think that is good enough.

So far running w/out the screen has been great. It seems punchier across the rpms. I don't think the mileage has suffered, and the idle seems about the same. Maybe next I'll take a dremel to the throttle body, heh heh.

Read the Intake Mods article up in Techinfo, Tech Know-How. It should cover anything you ever wanted to know about that!

You guys might have a rougher idle because the MAF can't accurately measure the incoming air, the screens are they to protect the filiment but they also create a bit of turbulence which is need for the sensor to read the incoming air, just a little food for thought :)
