Default Rear shock conversion

The time is coming to replace my rear shocks. I was looking on Rockauto and saw they had a conversion kit. Has anyone converted their rear air shocks with non-air shocks?

Here is a pic of the conversion shocks..



Opinions on the conversion would be great

If anything it would probably make your car squat when you put a load in it. Vs the air shocks that adjust for load and help the car level itself. Not sure that I see an upside to swapping.

I was also looking at those... I would think an upside would be that you would eliminate the air ride system all together. I'm not sure if that is a bad or good thing. If you don't usually add any major weight in the rear/trunk, I wouldn't think you need the air-leveling system. That'* just my opinion though. If your air compressor, one of your air lines or any other part of the air system goes bad you wouldn't have to worry about troubleshooting/replacing anything.
Not sure how the ride would be though. Anyone have these?

You need it more than you are leading others to believe. I believe you will absolutely regret sticking straight shocks in there. The problems start with anything more than a small child in the back seat. The picture you posted is intriguing though. It appears that the shocks have another set of springs on them. If these units help with the load, you can either go with these units, or swap springs with something that doesn't have load leveling.

They seem to be kind of like a hybrid type strut. I would "think" the springs would keep the ride hight and the shocks under them would dampen the spring bounce. It might just be safer to get the Monroe MA822 air shocks though. It'* closer to facotry setup/ride.

I read a couple reviews where people are saying the OEM air shocks have a softer more cushioned ride than the Monroes. However the Monroes are less expensive and are supposed to last longer.

why would u have to do that? u dont have to do that with a Bonneville without ELC..
And as for having problems if more than having a child in a car seat is loaded in the vehicle thats not true either.. I have 4 12" 1000w Rockfords in a large enclosure in my trunk along with a floor jack and a spar tire and my car doesnt squat, bottom out over large bumps or anything..
