Read An Interesting Article

Hey guys I really hope this is in the right section, because it's related to performance so I assumed it must be in the performance forum so Willwren or Sol or anyone doesn't have to move it.

I read an interesting article at Meijer today.I was reading the new Pontiac High Performance and they installed a turbo kit on a 2004-2006 Grand Prix GTP and they got over 400 hp with it. Only thing they changed was bigger fuel injectors and plugged off the supercharger. It ran mid to high 11's in the quarter mile. Wow I was seriously impressed. The car looked completely stock from the outside. Ran perfectly and caused no problems with computers. It was 4500 dollars installed.

Thought it would be cool to mention this. Wow, 400 hp from 231 cubes.

The INTENSE turbo car is closing in on 800 horsies now. ;)

llBlazin_llLo 01-02-2006 03:04 PM

That was an owner of DHP's car. 400 FWHP is about the standard output for a intercooled turbo setup. Not bad for a bolt on turbo kit on a lease car. Their are also a few cars that are closing in on 800+ HP - Stattama's drag car (Matt M), ZZP's daily driver (Zooomer) and INTENSE's new drag car should be their with maybe a few others this year.

Wow, I want a turbo now. I could drag race ZO6s, and other fast cars. That would be so cool. I'm still impressed how easily the 3.8 can make power.

I truly believe that 3.8 was the 2nd best motor that GM made, just below the beloved small block.

Off topic I'm sorry but : As far as fourbangers go the 2.2 was a tough bugger imo

that is why they are not making the motor anymore...too many are on the road....why buy a new car when the engine ran as good at 2k as it does at 200K

Oh yeah, the Ecotech 2.2 are tough too, they can be turbocharged to over 1000 hp. Wow.

Really, I didn't know that they stopped making them because they're tough, I thought they stopped because everyone is going to OHV now instead of pushrods.

Interesting, interesting.

yeah 3800 is 1960s technology still. but simple and they work.

I am still shocked they can achieve 800hp though on a v6.

Didn't I tell you in some other thread that you should get the turbo. L36 Gp's have gone from a 16 sec car to a 12 second car with just that and very minor supporting mods.

95naSTA 01-02-2006 09:38 PM

I can't wait till they get into GN territory. 1000+ hp

PRD2BDF 01-02-2006 10:05 PM

Yes, I know that, actually I didn't but now I do. Now I know that a 16 s car can be a 12 s car in a sneeze but it's the cost. Almost five grand  I'm not sure if the installation charge was included but I'm pretty sure it is.

If I put aside 100 dollars a month for 3 and 3/4 years, I should get the money. But right now, I think I really want to work on the apperance first. Just clean her up then get used to college life in the fall then we'll see from there.

Wow, 400 hp in one day, up from 205.

It's the trans that'll cost you. And that's not figured in yet. ;)

GTPboy 01-03-2006 08:12 AM

Actually from the last "rumor" I heard was Intense was going to be in the 900+ range!

And Charles did that on a bad turbo. If he would've had a "good" turbo he would be close to 10's with that kit!

Jason1351 01-03-2006 01:59 PM

ZZP's Statama turbo kit is free install. 4,099.99 w/o intercooler. :bpylons:

And then add the trans.

fantastic88 01-03-2006 03:47 PM

Could he get a HD unit for cheap from the junk yard?

willwren 01-03-2006 05:34 PM

With a custom PCM, sure. But it's still only a matter of time until it must be 'built'. You have to figure that into your budget ahead of time.

PRD2BDF 01-03-2006 05:44 PM

Whoa, looks like it'll be costly but it might be worth it. I'm surprised that it comes with a free install, that's almost unheard of these days.

Maybea diesel intercooler from the junkyard could be used and save everyone a lot of money.

Just an idea. I'll have to wait after college to see if my car is still around and if I'm not too deep in debt then I'll get a turbo.

Actually, we are pretty close to 900 and within a month or two should be at 1000 horsepower (crank). We are pretty close to a fix on the input shaft problem as well. 2006 is going to be a fun year :)

The 3800 is OHV. You must have meant to say SOHC or DOHC.

PRD2BDF 01-04-2006 09:47 AM

Yes that's it, I couldn't think of the word for that, Thanks

Thats awsome! By the time the LSS is paid off I will be able to make it a 1000hp streetable car, right!? I'm countin on you guys.

I read this article also and was wondering how it would work with a water to air intercooler like ZZ Performance makes as compared to air /air intercooler. Unfutunately it would not be going in my Bonneville,in my other pontiac. And would it be hard to rotate the turbo 180 degrees to make the exhaust come out the other side
