Default SERIES 1 L27/L67 COMPARISON

This is the topic for comparing these two engines and their differences with regards to internals. Post pics, document your evidence, and let'* whittle down the specifics. Anything goes as long as it'* engine internal comparisons. We'll deal with the externals in another post later.

Let'* talk about blocks, heads, intake manifold (lower), rods, pistons, etc. Side by side comparisons would be best. Copy and paste your posts from other topics if you choose, but do it concisely. Post your findings, and show your evidence. Occasionally, we'll do a wrapup and update the conclusions.

step 1:

part numbers of what you want compared. i can help out a lot if you get me some numbers.

<edit> gm parts direct is showing same head number for all applications... but different head gaskets...

What has been agreed on that we know is the same?

I think the top end will need to be broken down into 92 (heads), 93, 94 (larger TB)

I KNOW the 93 Throttle Body'* MAF sensor, TPS sensor and IAC sensor are the same, i've had both in my possession side by side, and P/N were the same. Hell i have an L67 MAF in my car right now....

I remember the guys working on Dame'* car said that the TB gasket was different between L67 and L27. Damemorder'* brother was puling it off of ihs car, and they reused the gasket since it was good, and they couldn't use the SC'd one.

What did they look like? My TB gasket is the impregnated black plastic, but my boss has the fiber gasket on his 95 SC Riv. Both gaskets from the same dealer??

TB gasket wise, there are differences. Will. If your TB gasket has a black plastic then is it similar to the Series II. The N/A gasket is just that the gasket itself.

Post pics. This doesn't make sense. I can't think of a good reason for the OEM gaskets to be different. My stock gasket, and two subsequent replacements have all been black impregnated plastic with steel inserts for the studs. All from GM.

I believe 94/95 went to fiber TB gaskets. I had a plastic one on my original 92 blower. I got a new gasket for the 94 blower and TB, it was fiber. Went back a while later before taking off the TB again, and got another fiber one.

ok here is what i understand. the N/A gasket actually fits in the UIM and then samwichces between the TB and UIM. The Series II has the Black plastic and then the gasket is blue. The gasket fits on the studs and goes between the UIM and TB the replacement for Series I is also blue gasket. now the difference is that there is different coolent passages, and the coolent passages are bigger in the series I

Let'* compare L27 to L67 Series 1 here.

The 94/95 L67 use a fiber gasket apparently.
My 93 L67 Uses the plastic black with blue impregnation.

What do the various L27'* use?

The UIM <> TB gasket is red from GM and orange fron AZ. It fits in a slot in the UIM, it'* held there by it'* own design and gets crushed smaller when the TB goes on.

The gasket is obviously for more than 1 TB design as it has areas that aren't nessesary for this application. I now have a pic of it on my digi, Just waiting to fill up the CF card before I pay the $4 to get them on CD.
