Default Ordered An Extra MAF To De-screen...

After checking with Granatelli Motor Sports and confirming that they do not offer a MAF for the GXP - I went ahead and ordered an extra MAF to descreen and try out. That way, if there are any negative affects I will still have my original - plus I will have the original to pop back in if I need to take it in for warranty work. I will let you guys know the results after the install...

argh. I feel horrible! I wish I had known you were looking for a MAF sensor for the GXP!!
Jetchip stocks them. http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?...&model=591#591

I just ordered a MAF sensor from Granatelli myself just last night actually.

Is it too late to cancel your order?

No worries... I shot you a PM. Thanks alot for the JET info as it looks like they also have a JET Power Control Unit for the GXP as well that can be used to optimize fuel maps and advance which is the first such item I have seen for the GXP. Thanks again!

too bad Granatelli doesn't offer an MAF for the GXP because from their description on www.summitracing.com the MAF has electronics that advise the PCM for full ignition advance and better fuel mapping. It says to expect a guaranteed 10-15 HP increase. Premium fuel is required though. I'm curious what the stock sensor will do with the screen removed. The screen is extremely restrictive on the N* engines, and without the linear airflow over the sensor I wonder how accurate of readings it will produce. Definately keep us updated on how it turns out!

Please keep Performance related topics in the proper place, and out of the Mechanical sections.

For reference, these are the sections that fall under "Mechanical and Maintenance":

If it'* not a mechanical PROBLEM, don't post it there.

Checked out those sites a little and when I come to some more, I want to check them out more. It is very encouraging to see aftermarket products making their way to our engine. One thing I noticed is the 45% gain in air flow and that in itself is very misleading. OK so ina bench test the new MAF can allow 45% more air through it BUT that does not mean the engine will take that much more flow... Alot of other issues are in control of how well the engine breaths. I am also very skeptical about the HP claims and they provide no documentation for this claim.

I have run my GXP without the maf or filter and didnt "feel" any performance increase...... possibly because the PCM isnt reading the additinal air flow? The MAf is very restrictive though and the PCM so sensitive. You only have to touch the MAF screen while running to make the engine sputter so maybe this mod could bring about better performance. The price even makes ME quiver. So I'm gonna sit on the fence on this one till someone else trys it and can definatly say it'* done an excellent job.

I wonder how much better the pricey aftermarket one could do over just removing the screen. Also I agree with Custom about wondering how the Maf responds to non linear flow across the MAF. The stock maf was designed for the linear flow the MAF screen on our engine produces. And I think this flow of air starts its "straightend path way back at the "snout" going into the second box. I notice the dirt and dust pattern created by this snout pushes the air right to the exit of the air box.

I no expert on the modern doings of MAF'* and would love to hear and understand more of this issue.

3.5" inlet/outlet. I can't remember if the intake on the 3.5 is 3" or 3.5." Guess I'll find out tomorrow night.

ran into a few problems. :( I bought INTENSE air duct to go from the MAF sensor to the throttle body and I didn't realize how stiff this tubing was. I broke two hose clamps before I decided there was NO way I was going to tighten the hose to the MAF or the throttle body. The INTENSE tubing is rediculously stiff to the point that you can't put a clamp on it. I'm not sure how I"m going to exactly remedy this problem just yet. I guess I'll have to buy a 3.5" coupler to go OVER the intense tubing and clamp the coupler to the tubing. I won't be able to get the parts until next week.

On a similar note, does anyone know where I can find a 3.5-3.5" coupler for cheap, and a 3.5-3.0" reducer? Everywhere seems to want $20 for each one. :?
