Problems with straight pipes..

So i was thinking about removing my cat and putting in a straight pipe.. But i was talking to a guy at an exhaust store. He said that the increased airflow would make my check engine light come on, and my performance would suffer... BUT he also said he had heard of a simulator that could trick the computer to think the cat was still there. Can anyone help me find this simulator? Or does anyone know anything about doin the straight pipe mod?

The rear O2 sensor will still pick up fuel in the exhaust because there is no cat there to burn them up, are you legally required to have a cat in your area?

No, there not required here. So does that mean my check engine light will come one?

Yes. You can buy a sensor delete or if you know someone who has a tuner, you can turn that off.

Is there any truth behind the statement that performance will suffer?

thats what the guys at 21st century exhaust said... i thought itd be the opposite...

yea a free flowing exhaust is good until a point. with straight pipes you can get too much flow which could cause you to lose some down low torque. i rode around the block with no muffler before i put my borla muffler on and man it was loud! pretty cool, cant lie.

U loose torque with no back pressure

yup, with the supercharged motors i dont think you really need back pressure but his isnt supercharged so yea.

even with the SC you still need some backpressure, now with turbos you want to eliminate as much pressure as possible because more flow= more boost= more power!
