Default another resonator question

I have been running 2.5" pipe into a flowmaster 40 series for awhile now and was wondering if a resonator would get rid of the raspy tone that i get at certain rpm'* but not affect the sound at idle and otherwise because i love the way it sounds aside from that certain rpm range when it gets raspy. Also, if so what size is best and does it affect power at all and where is the best place for it..close to the cat or close to the muffler. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

A resonator will quiet the exhaust at idle and while driving. It will still sound great at idle when the engine is cool (on start-up) and get quieter as it warms up. Resonators are usually right behind the CAT. That'* the straightest section of pipe and best location for one.

I dont want it to lose the nice rumble that it has just that annoying raspy tone it gets at certain rpm. does size and location matter as far as how much it quiets it down?

well everyone tells me that if I were to take my resonator off I'd get a loud, raspy sound and mine rumbles just fine. So I'd say put one on.

The resonator will tone down the raspiness when you throttle up, and the popping when you throttle down.

I added one to my 93 for this very reason.

If it'* anything like a bonneville of similar vintage, you'll lose volume, you'll be somewhere about halfway between stock muffler and the flowmaster, maybe a little louder.

I disagree. The volume of mine didn't change. It remove the raspiness and popping. The 'drone' is still there. Either from the street or from the cabin. Quite notable around 2k rpm'*.

Well i've heard both setups next to eachother, when zzzzzeke'* 94 was next to mine, both idling, his was almost impossible to hear next to mine. Depending on what you get aftermarket, it may quiet it down a lot, or nothing, but OE is a large difference.

His old car was a nice volume change and a performance sound, mine'* just excessive..

IIRC the cars with resonators had them after the catalytic converter before the major bends.

Whatever fits in the space between the cat and the first bend in the intermediate pipe will be fine. Mine was so tight (24"?) the shop had to cut the flanges off it to get it in.
