Default 1995 Bonneville Mods....1997 GTP

Well I just purchased a super clean 1995 bonneville regular 3800 II. I also have the abillty to buy a 1997 GTP that was hit in the nose and totalled. The guy purchased the car back from the insurance company because 3 months before he got hit it had a new GM long block put in because the spark plug let loose and killed the cylinder. The motor in the car has 6200 miles on it the rest of the car 96k miles. He was going to try and fix it but now he realized he never will. He wants $1000 for the car. My questions are should i buy and put the motor/trans/pcm combo into my car, or just spend $1000 on upgrades to the N/A 3800 and run 87 octane? If i do the */C motor swap what do I need to do in order to get the car into the 13s? I figure while everything is out of the car it will be a lot easier. Thanks in advance, Ian

You'll need the whole pcm, engine, tranny, you'll pretty much need everything in the engine bay. You also would need to convert it to OBD II, which could get tricky. Someone will probably chime in with more specific details

Going fast n/a is extremely expensive. $1000 is somewhere in the upper 14s if your lucky.
If just want to go fast go for the swap. Simple bolt ons will take you into the 13s.

you could always swap the top end over to the Bonne....the only thing you have to worry about then its the trans in the bonne going to an early grave because of the added HP

I would definatly say go for the swap, you can get buy buying a whole car instead of haveing to buy things from different sources (PCM, wiring, HD trans...ect ) then you can sell what ever is left over and make some back, deffently worth buying the GTP,
IMO anyway

i dont want to let the cat out of the bag but i know a certain person "cough me". That is going to hopefully be mid to high 14'* with less then $1000 in mods and definently 13'* with around $1500. The 95'* are great for modding.

How do you plan on running that? With so little into it?

You can swap it however the 97 PCM can be a PITA! If your are seriously going to do it, I would defineately invest in a 98+ harness, PCM, and Evap sensor. The 98+ are less sesitive to changes. There are only a couple ppl. crazy/or dumb enough to swap a 97 setup into a car. We have done it in a Cutty, but the Cutty was a 97 also.

I dont know if the Bonne'* are like the GPs in 95, its not really OBD1, its more like OBD1.5. We have a few ppl. in our group that have done the swap OBD1 to OBD2 with an L67 swap. If your interested I can point you in their direction.

Good Luck-Jeremiah
