Default Got a few questions

wasnt sure where to put this so general chat it is, now i have been planning on getting a different car on acocunt of the fact that i think the bonneville is too big for my tastes, however the more i drive it the mor ei like it, but i want something that can handle, now i cant have my car out of commission for more than a day at a time what with school and work so i was considering switching to my 93 bonneville and rebuilding the 96, which would include cutting it in half and shortening it for a shorter wheelbase, ok so that much aside i have about 2 grand to spare and i want to know what i can realisticly expect performancewise to get for that money, that includes new suspension components, engine upgrades, and trans upgrades to handle the increased engine power, i assume crank, cam, rods, spring/rockers, , smaller */c pulley, and headers, i would like ported heads but thats probly out of my budget, so basicly im looking for advic eon best bang for my buck

On a unibody? :?
I'm not a suspension expert but I bet there'd be better ways to increase handling than chopping the car!...unless you were kidding.
FE2 can still be be upgraded I believe.

yes i am serious i have already taken measurementd and planned out the strongest point that ic an cut without losing body strength, after the cut down i'll have a wheelbase about the same as a miata so basicly tihnk about increasing to over 300 whp and way under 3000 lbs we're talking monster potential here

Some body photoshopped this once. It was a green SSEi, 92-95... Sunroof poking out. Canadian or NE.

well i did a real basic mspaint chop of it to get a general idea of what it would look like,

but back to the main topic of performance upgrades, like i was originally asking, what is a realistic power expectation on a 2k budget taking into account cost of transmission and suspension upgrades, also where do you guys get transmission parts, intense?

Default what about a grand am?

have you ever thought of a grand am coupe? i've driven a gt and they are pretty good cars. with the money you have to spend you could really go to town on it, even try transplanting a bigger motor etc if you're that ambitious!

i don't mean to sound like a downer, but i have a couple of thoughts with this

one concern with the chopped bonne is if you get in an accident with it how strong is it gonna be? nobody wants to think of that my friend but it happens. also remember you will be doing some serious rewiring to splice in everything that goes to the back.

i think what you have in mind would be neat, but what if it doesn't work? then you've toasted a sweet bonneville!

as was said however, it you do it we want to see pics, lots of them!

best of luck
bill

Well theres a guy at my shop who does alot of welding and he'* teaching me, he said that if you make a weld right it'* stronger than 2 pieces you're connecting so i'm not worried about structural integrity, the only concern would be a shorter car means higher threat if i get mcgreevy'd, as far as the wiring, thats nothing i'm shortening not extending i can just tuck away slack and hide it under the carpet since there wont be back seats anymore, if i do decide to do it it will be in the summer when i'm not commuting to school and have nothing but time
