Dunno.....but I cleaned that end of the LIM today....and I was tempted to break that open and replace it. I'll dig it up for us. If nothing becomes apparent, I'll just cut a custom gasket.

Can't find that gasket listed anywhere. But on a side note, I finished the porting, and should have 9% greater flow. I improved the exhaust manifolds by 16%.

The bad news is that I don't believe we can block the coolant ports in the LIM with an intercooler on the Series 1. I think it'll be too much stress on the water pump. We may have to bypass it. More on that later.

I'm curious how that would overstress the WP. When I took off the lim end plate, I discovered a quite substantial coolant passage that branches to the rear and to the TB ports. If anything, cutting off the TB branch will reduce turbulence. What could work is if we mill out a few key areas in the LIM under that plate to connect the passages, if you are real worried about it.

The problem is that the bypass hose from the water pump feeds one (pressure side) of the ports for the TB passage EXCLUSIVELY. That's the only thing it feeds.

That problem can be taken car of with some material removal underneath the LIM plate.

willwren 06-19-2005 10:33 PM

No, it can't. There's a depression in the casting between them.

J Wikoff 06-19-2005 10:41 PM

It doesn't need to go straight across to the other TB port, which I still think it can, it could go straight down to the parallel passage directly under it. That's what the other TB passage does, just two inches to the right. I really should have taken a pic if I had the cam with me.

I still have mine out. I'll take another look at it after I get back from Pitt. I'd LOVE to magnaflux this thing.

I mapped out every port, and matched it up with the heads and water pump, so I know what's going where. It's just figuring out exactly where things are flowing inside that's the difficult part.

Cut one in half.

what is magnafluxing?
