Shift kit for my transmission?
Hey...
I think I'm going to get my trans flushed and filled soon and I was going to ask the shop if they can install a shift kit at the same time (you just have to drop the pan to install correct?)
If so...who sells a kit for my transmission? The 96 has the 4T60-HD with different a different ratio then the earlier models...I think 2.93. I can only find the thrasher kit, but it is for a 4T65.
Anyhoo, thanks for your help.

You have a 2.97 ratio in your 4T60E-HD.
You need the transgo 4T60E Jr. shift kit, and it requires disassembly of the transmission, particularly valvebody removal and modification.
It cannot be done with a pan drop.

Darn. This is obviously different then the 4T65 kit install...
I don't know much about transmissions, is what you described a huge job? Or a couple hours worth?
Next question...does this kit improve durability of the transmission? Alot, or just a bit? Is this something you would recommend?
THanks.

It requires REMOVAL of the transmission from the vehicle.
It should be done at the same time as a rebuild. Yes, I highly reccommend it. It will improve long-term durability and decrease long-term wear. It CAN, however, increase stress on the differential as it will hit the gears a little harder.
