Default Question About A Gutted Airbox

Whats up guys? Real quick, Im planning on gutting the airbox this weekend and i was wondering after the gut, I'll need to install a cone filter correct? because the drop in will no longer fitright?

drop in still works on my 96. I dont know about 2000 and up. I would think it should though as the "gutting" really just removes the noise baffles.

When you gut it, a cone filter won't fit into the box very well. You can use a drop in K&N and you'll be sucking air free of baffles.

Ok great thats what i was hoping. I noticed in the "how to" that Barry actually cut the opening in his fender wall bigger to allow more air into the box. Did any of you do this and is it necessary?

I did not. The hole the air come through into the box is slightly larger than the throttle body. It didn't make sense to make a bigger hole for intake, when the air would be drawn through a smaller hole into the SC.
