I am thinking about ordering the FWI from Intense and I was wanting to see what you guys did for a box around the cone. A buddy of mine has an enclosed box around his intake on his GP. Wondering if anyone has something similar.

You don't need a box for the FWI. It pulls air from OUTSIDE the engine bay. That'* the beauty of the design. This isn't a CAI inside the engine bay.

True. Does everyone just have the cone sitting in the airbox opening, behind the headlight? I figured with a box, it would definitely get the cooler air and also make the compartment look cleaner.

The intake tubing goes through a hole in the engine bay and into the fender well.

Different in WHERE it goes through, but yes, it pulls from the fender area. Protected entirely from engine bay heat.

There is no reason or benefit to builing a 'box'. This is what sets the FWI apart from the competition.

It fits in there pretty snug, plus it'* clamped very well to the tubing once you get it in. To install it you have to take off the tire and remove the plastic fender well liner. With the tubing attached to the filter with all the supplied parts you'll need you have to feed the tube up through the hole that your current airbox sticks it'* nose into. (considering we're talking about the '01 that'* listed in your sig). That was probably the hardest part of the install, slowly working the tube through the hole because it can get hung up on some edges in the fender.

No I dont, but it'll sit straight up and down once it'* in. And as long as you made sure your clamps are tight it'* not going anywhere. And once you get the fender well liners back in you cant see it at all. Also with the design of our fender wells the filter is more protected from water than the 99 and before are. Is there something specifically you want to know about the placement?
