Lifter types in the 3.8L OHV
I'm wonder what kind of lifters are in a '95 Bonneville SSEi
Im wondering because im getting alot of valve/lifter noise from the motor. Not notoriously loud, yet, but its noticeable. Its a series of repetetive ticking at idle
Im guessing it could be rocker arms which would make me sleep better...
Might also be valve springs (never heard of them making ticking noises) , maybe even the valves hitting the valve seat. Is this a normal sound from the 3800??
Mainly Im wondering if we have solid lifters, or hydraulic lifters stock. If they are solid then im guessing im in need of lifter work. Oh well, ive done it before.

If you're replacing lifters, MAKE SURE you measure them comapred to stock. A GTP lost an engine because of lifters from Autozone were a hair too tall. Witha modified valvetrain, pushing the lift limit, including a cam... It didn't last long.

I second the fuel injectors ... this is however unless you've isolated the noise too the valve cover area
hydrolic lifter tick usually goes away once the engine is warm. injectors is a pretty constant tick and usually can only be heard when the hood is open
kinda freaked my out the first time i opened my hood with the engine running... cause with the hood closed I can't hear anything accept the A/C pump clicking on and off now and then ... then open my hood and get baraged with fan and fuel injector noise it'* good and bad.. I can't even hear exhaust unless the car is above like 3K rpm (with the window open)
kinda makes me wonder how thick that hood really is course mine is a delta88 with a 3.8 not a bonne with a 3800

Yes, i do have the Series 1
No, the noise isn't coming from the injectors, because they make a different clicking (typical injectorsm they are also brand new) noise than what i've pretty much isolated. I'm not an amateur in automotive mechanics.
Using the steth, the ticking is best heard with the probe touching the rear of the block (the opposite side from the balancer and pulleys)
The injectors do tick but its easily distinguished from the other noise.
Cars got 184,000 on her.
I'm assuming its the lifters as they are in the area where the noise is best heard. The rocker arms also tick, but that isn't a worry to me because its pretty normal.
