Default Follow Up to my SHORTY Drag Radial thread

Here'* the original thread:
http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...487&highlight=

I recieved my spare rims today from Ed Morad (Thanks Ed!!), and mounted up my Nitto 225/50/16 Drag Radials. The general consensus in my previous thread'* question was that the 1.8" shorter height tires would wreak havoc on my car'* PCM and cause it'* shifting to be erratic and not happen when they normally did with stock height tires...which on my car is 5800 rpm'*...I also thought for sure that I would get an ABS light come on, or possibly a Check Engine Light...well...here'* what happened...

Mounted them up, bolted them on, and went for a ride...no less than a dozen times, I took off from a dead stop at WOT and the car shifts itself at 5800 rpm'* everytime, just like it does with the stock height tires. I did not unplug any fuse for the ABS, and I did not get any codes, Check Engine Lights, or any other weird things happening in the hour or so I drove around. I drove at varying speeds, from 25mph, to 70mph, both stop & go, and high speed highway driving as well as the aforementioned WOT jaunts from darn near every stop sign and redlight, lol...The car can be "footbraked" up until almsot 2400rpm'* before it tries to push through the brakes, but it "feels" like it takes off quicker "launching from about 2000.

I guess either the general consensus (including myself) was wrong about when and how my 95 naturally aspirated Series II would shift with the odd sized tires, but that'* what I was hoping for...

With the shorter tires, the car takes off a good bit quicker due to the "artificially" steeper final drive ratio caused by the shorter tires...The car shifted EXACTLY like it does any other time, which is what I had hoped for, and now I'm looking forward to November 12th, when my Mustang club friends have a track rental at Cecil County Dragway in Maryland...Anyone close is more than welcome to attend, but there will only be 150 racer spots available...Track is sprayed and it'* at near sea level, so be prepared for a new best ET if you come down...

Here'* what it looks like with the Nittos on the front...and NO, I will NOT be cruising around with them unless I'm on the way to the track...

I "probably" will Jake, especially since I have about 6+weeks before I get to the track...

I woulda had to poop myself if your shifts changed. I wasn't gonna be convinced otherwise.

I am a little suprised your ABS light didn't set. Maybe there is a larger threshold of difference in wheel speed than I thought there would be.

Trust me...I wasn't going to be totally convinced until I tried it...why else would I have mounted the tires myself, without a tire machine, in the driveway...lol...

I was pretty surprised also about not seeing a light for the ABS. I know from my old Mustang days that if you use the "traditional" big tire on the back/skinny short tire on the front, you will usually get one, but on a few of my own cars, a 2" shorter tire was alwasy OK...I agree though, you'd "think" that it wouldn't let me get away with that, but it did...no arguments here...

I'd never trust my own tire mounting without the proper tools. I hope you trust your work, for your sake.

Unfortunately, I'm a heavy equipment mechanic by trade, so this is part of what I do...just today was on a much smaller scale...

Glad they worked out well for you! I would have expected the shift points to be off honestly, but what do I know. :?

If anyone needs rims for slicks or radials, let me know. I have a several sets.

BTW, I think the GP crosslace look alot better than the Bonne crosslace you have on the rear of your car.
