Default question about gutting airbox

i pulled out the two plastic innards, and i just cut off the end with the hole two days ago....i notice a little bit better throttle response, and a bit more whistling, but not the AMAZING whine and throttle response that everyone talks about? could i have missed something? do i have to cut out part of that metal thing right in front of the airbox? does the paper filter cause that restriction?

I keep hearing about this gutting an air box, other than the sound difference, what advantage is there? Ok maybe a couple HP, but is this a teenage thing? Is there a write up on how to do it since I'm sure once Mick gets wind of it he'* going to want to try it.

Did I tell ya that last weekend when I was checking the oil I found the accordion tubing that goes from the TB to the Air Box disconnected as well as one of those plastic extension type attachments? When I asked Mick about it he admitted he did it because he claims it sounds better. Well folks I wasn't born yesterday, as far as I'm concerned you won't truly notice the difference until you stomp on it. What the heck is he doing stomping on my baby SSEi? That'* what I want to know!

Forgive me for going off topic.

I personally believe your stock TB...with or without MAF screen, and whether n/a or */C...will become a restriction LONG before the stock accordion tube, unmodified baffled airbox, or OEM-style air filter. And no one'* ever shown hard data to contradict my belief.

(That'* not to say CAI'*, FWI'* and the like don't have the benefit of inducting colder air...not that anyone'* ever shown data on that, either )

I could get you a brand new AMSOIL Nanofiber drop in filter, which filters way better than the wet gauze K&N media for about $38 shipped. That will give you the beatifull supercharger whine that you're looking for... It won't be as loud as the series 1 whine.....but this will definantly make a difference in power, sound and economy.

Your Drop in filter number is EAA08

Check'em out here!

i say a few HP here and a few there all add up...it'* an easy mod, it adds maybe 1 or 2 mpg under normal driving.....so why not?

true, that is disrespectful do drive a car that way if it'* not your own. but my first thought is that if he pulls the accordion tube, then won't air be able to flow past without going through a filter? that i think is worse than the beating (i thought i could run no filter for a short period of time....bad idea!)

well, when i get more money, i'll install a better filter. i just got the cheapest one i could that wasn't fram (it'* an STP), so i at least HAD a filter

Frank...in your case there isn't any parts to gut ouf of the airbox. And beat Mick for bypassing the air filter. (Notice I didn't say for stomping the car, cause we already knew that)

Ya, I guess we already did. But what troubles me is that you had a smile on your face when you read it. :?
