Reflectix and Intake wrapping observations
When I originally set up my intake isolation box, I was expecting a somewhat significant IAT reading drop, but unfortunately the results I was hoping for never really materialized. Because of all the headaches I've had recently, I needed to remove and reattach the filter to the pipe.
While I was there, I made some observations about how well the box was sealing. Turns out I didn't deal with the mating surfaces properly. Also, I wrapped the entire box and pipe a second time as well as added "flaps" to fully isolate the box when the hood is closed. My IATs are now about 20 degrees over ambient air. Before I was lucky if I had 45-50 degrees above ambient. These numbers are after 10 seperate runs with scantool hooked up in morning, 2pm, and 8pm(ish) air. Average temperature this past week by me has been 30-45 degrees.
Bottom line is that at least in my case, simply shielding the filter and the iat sensor doesn't appear to be enough to maximize gains.

i get within 10 myself.
Ram feed the air box with one 2" diameter pipe fed from under the car, that what i do.
Made about a 25 degree difference on mine

Interesting to hear the rice pipe perspective. I know you had insulated and the iat was in the filter.
In my gutted airbox case on my S2, my IAT temps are clearly much higher than the ambient.

Another interesting development. Yesterday, I put a sheet of reflectix beneath the heat shield box, dropped the temp another 5 degrees closer to ambient during this morning'* runs. I'm going to sneak out for lunch and see if it still holds. As it stands, I'm looking at around ~12-15 degrees to ambient temp right now.

Im not sure if it would help you but I remenber some one a year or so ago cut out some of the extra metal behind the head light that dose not support any thing so that more air would flow to the air box with less restriction and a little smoother.
Also if you can get a digital therm to moniter the actual temp out side the head light and in the intake you will know if what the IAT shows is correct and by how much

My current setup keeps me within 5-10° of ambient above 30mph. I'm going to be making some changes to it soon. Partly to improve performance below 30mph, and partly to increase ground clearance.

By the way, my luchtime run after I let the engine fully heat soak was consistantly 12 degrees above ambient, so I'm definately making progress here.
