Would it dangerous to ice my plastic intake at the track? Plastic + great changes in temperature = scary.

Well having a 94 plastic intake is much better then a 95 plastic intake... Although you do have a good point...

The 95 is a series II motor. the Series I have a full metal intake, and the later ones, with the black intake, have a metal bottom, and a plastic upper. The series II are known for cracking a lot, and it is almost guarenteed to have yours crack after a certain milage. You have to check coolant levels and if they are low you should have it looked at/replaced. A guy asking our opinion on a bonneville told us about a 97 se with pretty much no coolant in the resivoir today, well we told him right away to not get it cause of that problem. The owner says the system itself is full and thats all that matters... Haha yeah right...

The L27 and L36 both have a metal lower intake and plastic upper intake. I would imagine both are just as prone to cracking. Besides the point, any of you L27/L36 drivers ever ice your intakes with no problems?

Well i know the L27 doesn't crack on normal driving, but the new ones do. Anyways about the ice thing, i don't know if it will hurt it or not, the intake doesn't get as cool as the ice cause it still has warmer air inside, but don't come after me if it doesnt work...

Mach, you're right about the intake materials.....although some 92'* had aluminum uppers, I think. I don't know if the plastic compound changed, but I know the coolant passage locations and shape of the runners is different between Series I and Series II uppers. I wouldn't think icing that sucker would do anything horrible. If you're gonna do that, though, Ice that TB, too, and consider blocking off the coolant passages to it.

My 92 has a METAL Upper Intake! As for the Series II Uppers, well they don't "crack" they "warp" due to the EGR gases degregation from the EGR Tube.

Speaking of, I went into the local junkyard yesterday I saw a 91 Buick Regal GS. Expecting to see the pre 92 3800 I saw what looked similar to my L27 except for an aluminum upper intake!

I started to get excited and began to pull it off but noticed the PCV system is different...damn.

If the PCV is in a different location, it would indicate that the lower intake must be different, too.
