I just heard about this Forum this morning, and thought maybe I could contribute a little bit.
I've owned ten Pontiacs now, and currently have a 2000 SSEi as my daily driver.

Mostly, I'm into drag racing. I have a small business on the side where my partner Jeff and I are working to develop drivetrain components for GM FWD 3800/4T65E-HD vehicles. Most of our stuff ends up in Grand Prix's, but Bonnevilles are happy with our parts as well.

Scott has one of the baddest and nicest Bonnevilles I've ever seen. I've emailed him here and there before asking him questions about his car over the past year or so. It never hit me until this morning that he wasnt a member of the club, so I sent him an e-mail. Scotts car is currently in the Top 5 fastest cars on www.clubgp.com, which now has over 11,700 members, which should tell you something about it's 1/4 mile time :wink:

Anyways, welcome Scott!! I know for a fact your going to be a benefit here with all your connections and past experiences with the 3800, and especially with your bad ass SSEi. Just for the record, what was your most recent 1/4 mile time? :D

I have a question for you Scott. I personally find that when I look at the Bonneville the rims look so aesthetically small for the dimensions of the car. We all know you have extensive experience launching your Bonneville with real hp, what is the best set up for launching? Do you think we have to stick with the 17" rim or do you know of more aesthetically pleasing option that can reap good results?

I've got too many mods on my SSEi to list here. The condensed version can be found at the link I listed above.

I'm not much of a suspension expert, but I'll tell you what I've got. Until recently, I had Saner 1.25" front and 1.00" rear sway bars, along with polyurethane frame mount and end link bushings. I left the springs, struts and shocks stock only because I was unable to locate any aftermarket components last summer.

As of two weeks ago, I have become hell-bent on beating the record for FWD 3800-powered cars. I can't yet post exactly what I'm up to, but let's just say that my quarter mile times will no longer be limited by things like sway bars.

I agree with you about our rims. I switched over to 18" x 8" Konig Villains with P255/45ZR18 Michelin Pilot XGT ZR4 tires when my car was about a week old. 68,000 miles later, I still drive on them every day. I also bought an extra set of Pontiac wheel center caps and stuck them in the Konigs - just to keep the sleeper appearance.

As far as drag racing launches are concerned, this is where the H-bodies get destroyed by the competition. We have heavy cars with heavy wheels, heavy front rotors, a reduced percentage of weight on our front tires (no battery up there, aluminum hood, plastic front fenders, aluminum control arms, etc.), and the list goes on and on.

If you want to decrease your quarter mile time, I suggest focusing on one primary goal - getting your 60' time as low as possible. Right now, my best 60' time is ranked #2, and so is quarter mile time. There is a DIRECT correlation!
