Default Coil packs

Would the Coils from a 96 supercharged bonneville bolt right up on my car? I can get a pack of three from gmpartsdirect for $44 and I want to replace mine.

yes they would but the 97-99 L67 coils have a hotter spark than the previous models

Actually gmpartsdirect list it as 96-99. Since I can I think I will order them instead of MSDs they are cheaper and probably more reliable.

No, that'* the price for each, and they're the same coils you have on your car. After you pay shipping, they're more than the MSD'* at Jegs, and MSD'* are hotter than 97-03 stock coils. You're not likely to be able to tell much a difference, other than a slightly smoother idle and mild increase in the midrange (most can't feel it). Under 5hp for sure, maybe only 2-3 on a non-supercharged car.

If your coils are good, I wouldn't suggest the $120 for MSD'*.

What'* with the 3 in the description then? Is it indicating 3 are needed? Don't MSDs have reliability issues? I am looking to replace mine because I believe mine are starting to go a little bit.
EDIT: Also it is a different part number than my stock coils. They're for the supercharged models.

That description will always be misleading. So is their 96+ listing for the L67 coils.

MSD'* do NOT have reliability issues. Almost 3 years and going strong on my 93.

If you doubt your coils, measure them. Procedure is in Techinfo. Report your primary and secondary resistances here for each of your 3 coils.

Accel comes out of the box looking yellow. They get worse from there real quick. I've seen two sets fail within 30 days (not on my cars).

I went back and looked at the thread I was thinking of and saw that for some reason yours were just acting strange. So I will test mine and see what happens.
