Default AutoMeter Gauge Double Trouble!

When I got home from my Ontario trip, my wife picked me up at the airport in the Bullet.
As soon as I started it up, the gauge needle for my new Autometer LIM Air Temp gauge swung to 250 F.
At first I thought it was actually heated that warm because the outside temp had finally risen to 70 F
It has to be faulty.
It doesn't move from that reading when driving with no effect from the water
injection. When shut off, it does not return to normal. Dang

I will check connects but it is probably the main unit.

It'* very likely the main signal wire. When it shorts to ground (very low or zero resistance) it will read max temperature. Disconnect the wire from the back of the gauge and check it to ground.

Resistance measurements should be roughly similar to what you find on your IAT or ECT sensors at the same temperature.

Still it could be the sender and the meter it self is fine?
Sending units are sensitve animals and fail more often then the gauges themselfs?

I would have to pull off the SC to check or change the probe.

Maybe it'* broken and hanging off ready to be ingested into a valve.

I was talking about the sender. Disconnect it from the back of the gauge and check it with an ohmmeter.

I seriously doubt it'* the gauge. Check the sender main signal wire to ground, and compare it to the article I linked.

#1 and #3 cylinders have sucked the end right off and ate your probe while on holidays

The gauge is not going all the way to max as might be indicative of a ground.

It is a 0 - 300 F gauge.

With the ignition off, the gauge reads 270 F. When I turn on the ignition it sweeps counterclock wise back to 30 F and then sweeps clockwise to 210 F and stays there no matter what the engine is doing. Turn it off and it rotates more clockwise back to 270 F.

I will call AutoMeter today and hear what the techs have to say.
