Default Headers Issue...B4 Weld.

Hooked up the headers and started the car up... the idle ran smooth for about 5 seconds then raised to 1.5 rpms and then died. Im thinking the exhaust is too rich since its not hooked up to the cat---> back. Its just running off of the headers right now. Im getting it to a shop tomorrow but im wondering how to keep it idleing w/out dieing. Is this the problem or is there something that im missing.

do you have your PCM programed to not have a rear o2? ...that would just be a code error i think though

yeah there is no check engine light when i restart it up... and the o2 sensor on these new headers are in the left head to read most of the rear headers and all the from the front headers. So i don't think its an error. Its gotta be lack of flow and it being too rich cuz it smells like when u mow ur lawn. lol.

the car will run, and should run w/o the exhaust....you might have larger issues.....whats the story on the cam, cause that can cause problems too

before the headers were installed, the cam was running for about a week and had a pretty steady idle of a little under 1 rpm. Was a little bit choppy but we changed out the fuel filter and it kind of evened out. And the only thing we touched over the last 2 days was the exhaust. So im not sure whats going on...

kind of evened out.
wtf does that mean... i really doubt your problems are exhaust related

i have started all 3 of my cars with only manifolds on before, only problem being not having earplugz

well it evened out meaning it stayed a tick under 1 rpm and wouldn't die. so.. don't ask me.

which headers did you get? did you reset the PCM. Check any and all vaccum lines. sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Carefully go over any and all components you would have unhooked/removed while doing the header install. Make sure every single thing is back where it should be. Also, did you use the proper electrically-conductive anti seize on the threads of the O2 sensor when you installed it in the headers? It may not be grounding properly for normal operation, causing the PCM to read a in improper fueling condition.

EDIT: If you didn't use proper anti seize on the O2 threads, you can generally find copper anti seize that is electrically-conductive. Also, none of this matters if you installed a brand new O2, because they come pretreated with proper anti seize compound from the factory.
